McSweeney, Irwin capture seats on School Committee By Mary Ellen Gambon Staff Writer

chool Committee chair Kyla McSweeney will return for another term, joined by newcomer Sandra Irwin, in the main contested race in the May 18 Annual Town Election. McSweeney garnered a total of 679 votes, winning all five precincts. Irwin won 529 votes, coming in second in every precinct but Precinct 1. Sravan Krishna, the third candidate, received 468 votes. Town Clerk Connor Degan released the final (but still unofficial) numbers to the Independent via email at 11:11 p.m., updating the totals from the results released just before 8:30 p.m. The Independent spoke on the phone with McSweeney at 9:15 p.m. Surrounded by supporters who gathered at a party at her home, McSweeney talked about her role and the future of the school system. “I’m very excited to continue the work we’ve started on the School Committee,” she said. “There’s a lot still left to do.”

arbone’s Restaurant, an iconic ItalianAmerican eatery in Hopkinton at the border of Southborough and Ashland, will close on June 27 after 93 years in operation. The town has been negotiating with the owners to purchase the land for town and open space use, Assistant Town Manager Lance DelPriore confirmed in an email to the Independent. “The Town is very grateful that we were able to reach a mutually beneficial agreement,” he stated. “Our primary interest in the property was finding a viable location

Carbone’s is set to close after the owners agreed to sell the property to the town.
