Abandoned Intel site slated for 950,000-square-foot industrial campus By Paul Hopkins Reporter HUDSON – The Hudson Planning Board will hold a public hearing Dec. 16 on a new plan for the former Intel campus on Reed Road. Town officials say the property owner, National Development, has filed an application for site plan review, which launches the formal permitting process. A news release from Hudson says “the assessed future tax revenues of this redevelopment project for the town is valued at $3 million annually.” National Development will propose a new industrial campus of about 950,000 square feet. There is no tenant identified yet. The first Planning Board hearing will be Dec. 16 at 7 p.m. in the Hudson High School auditorium. The meeting will be streamed live by HUD-TV. Site plan review will encompass “a comprehensive evaluation of several key technical and operational components,” according to the town. That will include transportation and traffic impacts, noise attenuation strategies, and stormwater management. Intel, once the largest taxpayer in Hudson, has vacated the property over a period of years. The 148-acre site lies between two residential areas, Westridge Condominiums and The Villages at Quail Run. Abutters rallied to shoot down a proposal to build a warehouse in 2022; no tenant had been identified. In June, Town Manager Thomas Gregory Intel | 15

‘One of the most rewarding things you can do’ Marlborough’s first deputy police chief looks to the future By Shealagh Sullivan Reporter MARLBOROUGH — For the city’s first deputy chief, serving Marlborough is more than just a job. Daniel Campbell was sworn in as deputy chief of the Marlborough Police Department on Oct. 6, but he’s no stranger to the department — or the city. A Marlborough native, Campbell joined the department at 21 as a patrol officer. Then a senior at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, he delayed his last semester to enroll in the police academy. Since joining the department in 2006, Campbell has worn many hats. He previously served as a command officer, lieutenant, and most recently as an acting captain. Under Police Chief David Giorgi, he helped pilot the city’s traffic program and the Youth Police Academy. “I’ve been very lucky with a lot of opportunities that have opened up after that,” Campbell said. Main Street condos cross finish line By Paul Hopkins Reporter MARLBOROUGH – The City Council approved the Taj Estates condominium project on Main Street, filling a lot that has been empty for at least five years. Taj Estates of Marlborough and the city have been working to beat a Jan. 12 deadline to put shovels in the ground before

a special permit expires. The vote was 8-2 on each of the three elements of the plan: an amended site plan, an amended special permit, and the sale of a small slice of land for the construction of a new public stairway. Councilors Mark Oram and Robert Preciado were opposed. The Council’s Urban Affairs subcommittee Taj Estates | 14
