Streets near Jordan Pond close; residents are told to shelter because of an ‘armed and dangerous’ suspect.

Shrewsbury Police Chief Kevin Anderson announces that a resident died. The suspect surrendered, he says.

Anderson sends another statement: ‘No words can ease the pain of such a ... devastating loss,’ it reads.

The suspect, Snehal A. Srivastava, 26, is publicly identified at Westborough District Court.

By Evan Walsh Managing Editor SHREWSBURY – A Shrewsbury father was killed after an incident following school drop-off. At 8:47 a.m. on Aug. 28, a 56-year-old man, identified as Kevin Doherty, was walking the Jordan Pond trails; he had just dropped his 6-yearold son off at school, and was holding a children’s scooter and helmet. While returning from the drop-off, he noticed a 26-year-old, identified as Snehal A. Srivastava, of Shrewsbury, on a bridge by Jordan Pond holding spray-paint, potentially vandalizing the area, said Worcester County District Attorney Joseph D. Early, Jr. Doherty took a picture of the person carrying the spray-paint, leading to an altercation. Soon after, Doherty dialed 911. While he was on the line, the dispatcher heard several gunshots, Doherty saying “he shot me,” then silence, according to court documents and Shrewsbury Police Chief Kevin Anderson. The Shrewsbury Police Department responded to the call and saw that Doherty had been shot. Doherty died en route to the hospital. Tragedy | 5

‘An undeniable choice’

Marcia Roman named 2025 Applefest grand marshal NORTHBOROUGH — Some would say Northborough isn’t Northborough without Marcia Roman. After decades of good deeds and community involvement, Roman will be in the spotlight when Northborough celebrates Apple-

fest from Sept. 18 to 21. She’s been named the 2025 Applefest grand marshal. But Roman doesn’t do it for the accolades. Read more about this community star — an “undeniable choice” — on page 18.
