School Committee votes to redistrict Farley, Forest Ave. By Sarah Freedman Contributing Writer HUDSON – The Hudson School Committee voted 5-1 to redistrict C.A. Farley Elementary School and Forest Avenue Elementary School on March 18. The decision to shift two neighborhoods from Farley to Forest Avenue due to space issues affects 54 current students. Superintendent Brian Reagan recommended the boundary change after communicating with the families of incoming Farley fourthgraders in the impacted neighborhoods. He put forth an accommodation for these families to choose whether or not they would like to remain at Farley. The decision to redistrict was made after public discussion at four School Committee meetings and a forum for Farley families in early February. Reagan’s recommendation to accommodate incoming Farley fourth-graders stemmed from the forum and a parent survey. “Beyond that grade four adjustment,” said Reagan, “my recommendation has not changed.” There were ideas about how to manage space without redistricting — Hudson could’ve moved unhoused students or those without a permanent residence, for instance. District leaders briefly considered moving special education out of Farley, but they were confident in the existing program. As early as May 2023, Reagan initiated conversations with Farley leadership to address the fact that the school’s enrollment was exceed-

Repair work to postpone reopening of Lake Williams boardwalk By Maureen Sullivan Assistant Editor MARLBOROUGH – It may be some time before the boardwalk at Lake Williams is open for the season. According to the Mayor’s Office, repairs to some of the railings will take place over the next few weeks. A bridge specialist, contracted by the Department of Public Works, will be conducting the project. The Mayor’s Office will post an official announcement once the bridge is ready for opening, either in late April or early May.

The Lake Williams boardwalk will be undergoing some repairs before it opens for the season.

Shaw’s to move into Hannaford space By Maureen Sullivan Assistant Editor MARLBOROUGH – Shaw’s Supermarkets will be moving into the space at 193 Boston Post Road West being vacated by Hannaford this September.

A spokesperson for Shaw’s said the store “will provide customers with an inviting atmosphere that highlights quality products, variety, convenience, and great customer service.” An official opening date has yet to be announced.
