School program offers help for families in need By Maureen Sullivan Senior Reporter MARLBOROUGH – Last year, Marlborough Public Schools began offering a special program to assist less fortunate families. Called “Wraparound Services,” it offers a range of programs to address needs, such as health care and holiday gifts. During the School Committee meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 27, Kayla FlahertyDawson, a licensed social worker and the coordinator for Bilingual Wraparound Services, presented a slideshow on how the program has fared in its first year. “It’s a holistic model to meet the needs of students and their families,” said Flaherty-Dawson. Planning Board tackles traffic concerns at proposed Intel redevelopment By Caroline Gordon Reporter HUDSON - Residents filled the Hudson High School auditorium Sept. 27 and voiced concerns about the traffic that could be caused by the proposed Intel redevelopment. This summer, Intel said that it planned to sell its 149-acre parcel at 75 Reed Road to Portman Industrial. Scout creates StoryWalk for Eagle Scout project By Stuart Foster Reporter MARLBOROUGH – Marlborough Troop 2 Boy Scout Brandon Proteau created a StoryWalk, which allows people to read a children’s book outside, for the Hudson Public Library to complete his Eagle Scout project.
Proteau’s StoryWalk has 18 signposts that laminated pages can be placed in, allowing for people to alternate children’s stories. The signs are placed on a path that children can walk down, reading the story as they go. “That’s kind of cool because what it does is it gets kids outside and reading,” StoryWalk | 25
