Bradley Norris McFanin passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at Beacon Health in Kalamazoo Brad was born on August 8, 1964, the son of Ronald and Kay (Kissinger) McFanin He began working with his father at the age of 16, doing construction and installing pools and went on to own and operate McFanin Builders Brad loved tinkering in his garage and woodworking He enjoyed chasing storms, camping and relaxing in the sun by the pool He loved nothing more than spending time with his family and spoiling his grandchildren Brad was a member of the First Baptist Church of Otsego Surviving are his children, Heather (Kyle) Hatten of Alamo Township, Amber (Clay) Belka of Shelbyville, Ryan (Samantha) McFanin of Martin and Mark McFanin of Kalamazoo; fiancée, Kimm Ray and her children, Dallas (Jenna) Knoll, Ally Ray and Darron Ray; grandchildren, Bryer, Lincoln, Colter, Lauren, Landon, Leeson, Crew, Eloise, Tilly, Kairi, Addie, Alice and Alden; his mother, Kay; siblings, Ronda Penny, Kim Gillies, Colleen (Ward) Litchfield, Ron (Mary) McFanin, Brian (Kelly) McFanin, Christina (Todd) Back and Amanda (Allen) Millis; sister-in-law, Gail McFanin along with several nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by his father, brother, Michael and beloved dogs, Duece and Dixie According to his wishes cremation has taken place Friends and family visited with Brad’s family from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM, Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at the Winkel Funeral Home, Otsego A memorial service took place at 11:00 A M , Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at the First Baptist Church of Otsego, with Pastor Paul Laborde officiating

God wants us to worship Him in spir it and in tr uth

Jesus was pretty hard on the Phar isees for going through the motions of religion without really connecting with God Jesus said, “They honor me with their lips, but their hear ts are far from me” (Matthew 15:8) They worship me in vain; their teachings are but r ules taught by men” (Matthew 15:9)

It seems obvious from these statements that lip ser vice is not enough It is not enough to mouth the words So, is our worship a for m of r itual or is it a real exper ience of offer ing our praise to the living God?

We must worship God in spir it and in tr uth What does it mean to worship God in spir it and in tr uth?

The answer is found in the conversation Jesus had with the Samar itan woman at the well (John 4:126) It was a conversation about how to worship the living God Here are some tips of how to worship God:

1. Humbly

“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up” (James 4:10)

2 Honestly

“And when you pray do not keep babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask”

(Matthew 6:7, 8)

3 With A Pure Motive

“Blessed are the pure in hear t for they will see God (Matthew 5:8)

God wants more than lip-ser vice God wants us to worship Him with a hear t that is humble honest and pure This is real worship!

Do Not Be Anxious About Anything

jail or fired from their job, others were being fed to lions or burned to death, all because of their faith in Jesus How can Paul have the audacity to tell these suffering Christians, “Do not be anxious about anything” (Philippians 4:6)?

Life was not a “bed of roses” for Paul When he wrote the letter to the Philippian Church, he was an old man under house arrest, likely chained to a Roman guard Paul was restricted and mistreated Forget about retiring to a Jerusalem suburb, joining a golf club, and joyriding the Judean countryside with a brand new 61AD convertible camel Nope! Paul was facing the possibility of being executed His crime? Telling others about the love of God in Christ Paul has every right to say “do not be anxious about anything” because he has every reason to be anxious about everything

What was Paul’s secret to being free from anxiety, especially when he found himself in quite the pickle? Here it is: “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6‐7) Paul is asserting that we can be free from anxiety no matter what ugly circumstances surround us if we simply focus our thoughts on prayer to God, not as a last resort but as a first response Paul notes that prayer to God leads to the “peace of God” that has the power to “guard your hearts and minds” from the anxiety that will weigh us down Got peace? Want peace? Pray!
