THANK YOU MESSAGE TO THE OUTGOING CHAIRPERSON As your term as Council Chairperson has recently come to close, the Council and the Secretariat would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your hard work and commitment in building a strong and relevant organisation. Ms Sithabile Mathe has done an outstanding job in shaping the Architects’ Registration Council for the past seven (7) years, three (3) years of which she was at the helm of the Council leadership as the Chairperson. Ms Mathe has been integral to the important advances and transformations made, not only in delivering the regulatory mandate of the Council but also passionately advocating for the promotion, growth, development, and sustainability of the profession of architecture in Botswana. She is a champion of Gender equality in the construction industry, never forgetting to call for a deliberate effort to ensure that the playing field is levelled for all stakeholders. We credit her with bringing gender equality issues to the fore of the Architects’ Registration Council’s agenda. Her private office has become a platform for advancing architectural matters and indeed launching young women professionals in the construction industry. As the Council Chairperson, she distinguished herself as a dependable judicious steward of the Council and the profession, and she never flinched in the face of difficult decisions as a leader. Her energy and devotion to the wide interests of the profession and its regulation demonstrated the selfless passion and commitment she has for the profession and the work of the Council. Additionally, the Council has immensely benefitted from Ms Mathe being the founding Chairperson of the Registration Committee of the Council from its formation since 2015 when the Council commenced its operations. Her technical skill in handling the varying matters of registering architectural professionals from different training and practicing backgrounds further demonstrated her unwavering leadership capabilities. As the outgoing Chairperson, Ms Mathe has tirelessly given her time and resources to the work of the Council. Thus, she has done an outstanding job shaping the Council for the past years of her office tenure both as a Council member and as a passionate member of the architectural fraternity and/or the built environment in Botswana. It is unfortunate that she leaves office when the Council is in the process of fostering working relations and developing mutual agreements with local and external stakeholders with the desire not only to develop the profession but also to increase the credibility and visibility of the Architects’ Registration Council. She also retires from the leadership of the Council, at a time when the Council has been given approval by the Cabinet to review its legislation, we however believe, that the foundation she has laid to this regard will be of great guidance to the Council going forward. Mme Mma Mathe, your energy, passion, and devotion to the mandate of the Architects’ Registration Council and the profession of architecture will be difficult to match. The Council consoles itself on the merits that you leave it a better regulatory organisation and on a strong footing for those who will continue where you left. It is the great pleasure of the Architects’ Registration Council to thank you for your dedication and the wonderful work you accomplished in your three-year term as the Chairperson and for the sterling accomplishments as the Chairperson of the Registration Committee.
