EXECUTIVE SUMMARY This Porter's Five Forces analysis evaluates Columbia College Chicago's competitive position within the specialized arts and entertainment business education sector. The analysis integrates insights from stakeholder focus groups (faculty, staff, students, parents/families), environmental scanning (STEEPLE analysis), and strategic scenario planning to assess industry attractiveness and competitive dynamics. Two-Part Analytical Structure: This Porter's Five Forces analysis is strategically divided into two complementary parts. Part I (this document) presents the Integration Team's assessment of Columbia's top strengths and critical pain points, establishing the internal competitive foundation. Part II delivers the comprehensive Porter's Five Forces analysis, leveraging these internal insights against the five competitive forces to evaluate market positioning and strategic options. Integrated Competitive Framework: By first establishing Columbia's authentic internal capabilities and challenges, we ensure that the Porter's Five Forces analysis in Part II addresses real institutional strengths and vulnerabilities rather than theoretical frameworks alone. This integrated approach produces competitive strategies that are both externally responsive and internally feasible.

However, this analysis did not include comprehensive research or exploration of Columbia's formal organizational data repository systems (this was out of the facilitator’s work scope for this project. While these expert-provided figures establish a solid analytical foundation and reflect the lived experience of Columbia's community, they should be considered preliminary estimates for strategic planning purposes. For statistical validation, formal research applications, or operational decision-making requiring precise metrics, these figures must be verified and validated against Columbia's official institutional data systems, including enrollment management, financial records, student information systems, and academic analytics platforms. This approach ensures the analysis captures authentic stakeholder perspectives while acknowledging the need for formal data validation in subsequent implementation phases.
