2012-2013 Season Brochure

Page 1

In my second full season as Music Director of your Columbus Symphony, I am proud of what we have accomplished so far, and look forward to the many great challenges and programs to come in our continual pursuit of excellence!

The Ohio Theatre will again be the CSO’s home for eight Masterworks performances, as well as a performance of Beethoven’s Ninth as a season opening special event. The 2012–13 season showcases many of the world’s great composers, including Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, Handel, Rachmaninoff, and of course, Mozart and Beethoven. We also have an exceptional assembly of guest artists to help perform the works of these great composers, including pianist Nareh Arghamanyan, violinist Elina Vähälä, pianist Marc-André Hamelin, conductor/violinist Monica Huggett, and violinist Vadim Gluzman, among others. It is a celebration of the masters of classical music with some of the best artists the world has to offer.

Additionally, we are thrilled to collaborate with BalletMet to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the world premiere of the ballet The Rite of Spring BalletMet has choreographed a dance which will be presented on stage by their dancers while the CSO performs the Stravinsky piece. We are delighted to honor this incomparable work of art with BalletMet and you!

If you have not experienced a CSO performance in the Southern Theatre yet, please join us for the four Masterworks programs we will present there this season. The Southern’s exceptional acoustics offer you the opportunity to hear every nuance and subtlety of the selected works as intended by the composers. It is truly classical music as it was meant to be heard!

We have an outstanding Pops Series lined up for you as well, including Chris Botti, Air Supply, Al Jarreau, and the beloved, annual Holiday Pops. Whatever your taste or schedule, there is always something exceptional waiting for you at your Columbus Symphony.

Thank you for joining us during this exciting chapter!
