The New High Street Developers are transforming North High Street from the Short North to the campus area.
I
t seems everyone loves North High Street these days— everyone, that is, except drivers. The stretch of the Columbus road from the Short North through the Ohio State University campus is a sea of jackhammers, constructions cranes, orange barrels and workers in hard hats, as developers do their best to meet the growing demand for offices, highrise residences, hip eateries and new
off-campus housing on the north side. “It’s where office tenants want to be, it’s where restaurants want to be, it’s where residents want to be,” says Mike Fitzpatrick, president of Columbus-based developer Elford Development Ltd. “There’s a national movement of people going back to the core city.” Here’s a look at the projects along North High Street from the Short North through the North Campus area.

Convention Facilities Authority Delivery date: Late 2021 City and county officials are working on a plan for a $180$200 million, 470-room expansion of the Hilton Columbus Downtown across the street from the 532-room original location that opened in 2012.
Development LLC Delivery date: July 2018 Crews were renovating 13,200 square feet in the historic Yankee Trader building into commercial retail space. New tenants include Mikey’s Late Night Slice, the Candle Lab and Indianapolis-based Escape Room.
Contractors were renovating the Mac’s Café restaurant that anchors this three-story, 118-year-old property. The restaurant reopened in July with a renewed Scottish theme.

The mixed-use project began construction this spring on the site of the now-demolished Grandview Mercantile retail building at North High Street and West First Avenue. A parking garage, apartments and offices are in the works.
This four-story, mixed-use project on what had been a standalone United Dairy Farmers location will feature, among others, a new UDF, a Serendipty Labs co-working space and a Babalu Tacos and Tapas.
The mixed-use Brunner Building will feature 33 apartments and a rooftop clubhouse for residential and commercial tenants. Philadelphia-based 160over90 branding agency has signed on as an office tenant.
