LIVING FRUITFULLY Love. Joy. Peace. Patience. Kindness. Goodness. Faithfulness. Gentleness. Self-control.
What do these qualities have in common? They describe God’s very nature. They express His feelings toward us and reveal His desire for us to grow in these traits. These fruit are not just virtues we should strive for— they are the characteristics of God Himself, shaping our lives as we live in relationship with Him.
LOVE is selfless, compassionate and intentional care. Without love, all else is empty. God is love. JOY is an overwhelming sense of contentment that isn’t determined by external factors but instead
transcends circumstances. God is joy.
PEACE is a calmness that settles over the soul, found in the trust we place in God’s sovereignty. God is peace. PATIENCE, also referred to as forbearance, is the quiet confidence to wait on God’s timing, trusting that He
will fulfill His promises. God is patience.
KINDNESS is the act of going out of your way to help someone, a tangible expression of love in action. God is kindness. GOODNESS is doing what is right in the eyes of God—wholeheartedly and with integrity. God is goodness. FAITHFULNESS is staying true to God’s will, even when it challenges our own plans. God is faithfulness. GENTLENESS is a spirit of calm and care, handling situations and people with grace. God is gentleness. SELF-CONTROL is the strength to resist our unhealthy impulses and desires, choosing God’s way over
our own. God is self-control.
Before fruit grows, the roots must be secure. When we are rooted in the Holy Spirit, these qualities begin to blossom in our lives. We cannot bear fruit of our own; it is only through the power of God’s Spirit that we grow. It all starts with a strong foundation—deeply grounded in His love and presence. And the fruit we bear is not just for us—it’s meant to be a blessing to others and point them to Christ. This year, the pages of the Columbia Union Conference calendar will serve as a continual reminder that God’s fruit can thrive within us and flow through us as we reflect His love and draw others closer to Him. Each month offers a challenge, offering practical ways to cultivate the fruit of the Spirit in our lives. In 2026, may you choose to be filled with the Holy Spirit. he Columbia Union Conference, established in 1907 to coordinate the Seventh-day Adventist Church’s work in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia, is part of the worldwide Protestant denomination of 23 million members in more than 212 countries.
