THE COMPLETE GUIDE Understanding Gloss
Gloss is about shine. It describes how much light is reflected from the surface of the paint, relative to the angle at which we are looking at the surface, and the properties of the latter. Gloss is measured in Gloss Units (GU), and the higher the number of units, the shinier the surface. Professional paint manufacturers use the ASTM standard method to measure GU, with 3 angles of measurments: 200 — to measure extreme high gloss surfaces | 600 — to measure the majority of surfaces | 850 — to measure extreme low gloss surfaces The gloss levels of the paint samples desplayed on this brochure are based on the above international standards and are defined as such:
FLAT
Satin paints show imperfections more than flat ones but are easier to clean.
Semigloss paints are stain-resistant, easy to clean, and ideal for high-traffic areas.
Gloss paints clean easily and resist stains but highlight surface flaws due to their glossy finish.
