When my family and I moved to Denver in 2016, we quickly grew to know and love the city’s vibrant arts community. With each new exhibit or concert we attended, our connection to the community deepened. Arts organizations have a way of doing that, of giving you an immediate sense of place and belonging. It’s one of the reasons I’ve spent my entire career working in and around the arts.
This past April, I joined the Colorado Symphony as its first-ever Chief Experience and Revenue Officer. In that short time, I have been consistently struck by the passion and talent that surrounds this organization at every level.
My role at the Symphony brings together marketing, communications, patron services, and ticketing with one clear mission: to bring new audiences to this orchestra and give them every reason to return. That means thinking carefully about every touchpoint, from the moment you buy a ticket to the moment you walk out the door and asking honestly whether we made it as welcoming and memorable as it could be.
What makes the Colorado Symphony so special is that this work extends far beyond the concert hall. Our mission is to inspire and unite humanity through live symphonic music. Every performance, educational program, and community partnership reflects our belief that live symphonic music has the power to strengthen communities and create lasting memories. Guided by values rooted in listening, collaboration, creativity, excellence, and celebration, we strive to ensure that every person who engages with the Symphony feels welcomed, inspired, and part of something greater.
Why does that matter beyond the music itself? The evidence is striking. Students from low-income backgrounds who are engaged in the arts drop out of high school at rates five times lower than their peers, score 100 points higher on the SAT, and are twice as likely to earn a college degree. Communities with robust arts programming report 18 percent less serious crime and 14 percent fewer incidents of abuse and neglect. The arts are not a luxury. They are infrastructure.
Every seat filled this summer is a connection made and a community strengthened. If you are reading this, you are already part of that. Australian conductor Ron Spigelman is an honors graduate of London’s Royal Academy of Music. His distinguished career includes tenures as Associate Conductor of the Buffalo Philharmonic and Fort Worth Symphony, and Music Director of the Fort Worth Dallas Ballet, San Angelo Symphony, Texas Chamber Orchestra, and Springfield Symphony (MO). After serving as Music Director of the Lake Placid Sinfonietta (NY), he was named Conductor Emeritus. He is the Principal Pops Conductor of the Buffalo Philharmonic and formerly held the same post with the Fort Worth and Syracuse Symphonies.
Recent guest conducting appearances include the orchestras of Atlanta, St. Louis, Baltimore, Utah, Oregon, Kansas City, Vancouver, Nashville, Florida, and Minnesota. Spigelman’s versatile repertoire spans Ballet, Opera, Musical Theatre, and Pops, including over 35 live-to-film productions including the complete Harry Potter series. He has collaborated with artists ranging from Horacio Gutiérrez and Rachel Barton Pine to Marvin Hamlisch, James Taylor, Leslie Odom Jr., and Gladys Knight.
Career highlights include his 2004 Carnegie Hall debut with the BPO, the world premiere of Lowell Liebermann’s Pegasus with the Dallas Symphony, and the world premiere recording of Michael Torke’s Sylvan.
Based in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with his wife Laura and their six children, Spigelman is Board President of Harmony Project Tulsa, providing music education to underserved youth. A summa cum laude graduate of Arizona State University in Family and Human Development - receiving the Dean’s Medal - he is currently pursuing a Master of Liberal Studies, researching the social roles of the conductor.

In a career spanning more than six decades, John Williams has become one of America’s most accomplished and successful composers for film and for the concert stage, and he remains one of our nation’s most distinguished and contributive musical voices. He has composed the music and served as music director for more than one hundred films, including all nine Star Wars films, the first three Harry Potter films, Superman, JFK, Born on the Fourth of July, Memoirs of a Geisha, Far and Away, The Accidental Tourist, Home Alone and The Book Thief. His 50-year artistic partnership with director Steven Spielberg has resulted in many of Hollywood’s most acclaimed and successful films, including Schindler’s List, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, Jaws, Jurassic Park, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, the Indiana Jones films, Munich, Saving Private Ryan, The Adventures of Tintin, War Horse, Lincoln, The BFG, The Post and The Fabelmans. His contributions to television music include scores for more than 200 television films for the groundbreaking, early anthology series Alcoa Theatre, Kraft Television Theatre, Chrysler Theatre and Playhouse 90, as well as themes for NBC Nightly News (“The Mission”), NBC’s Meet the Press, and the PBS arts showcase Great Performances. He also composed themes for the 1984, 1988, and 1996 Summer Olympic Games, the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. He has received five Academy Awards and fifty-three Oscar nominations, making him the Academy’s most-nominated living person and the second-most nominated person in the history of the Oscars. He has received seven British Academy Awards (BAFTA), twenty-five GRAMMYS, four Golden Globes, five Emmys, and numerous gold and platinum records. In 2003, he received the Olympic Order (the IOC’s highest honor) for his contributions to the Olympic movement. He received the prestigious Kennedy Center Honors in December of 2004. In 2009, Mr. Williams was inducted into the American Academy of Arts & Sciences, and he received the National Medal of Arts, the highest award given to artists by the U.S. Government. In 2016, he received the 44th Life Achievement Award from the American Film Institute – the first time in their history that this honor was bestowed upon a composer. In 2020, he received Spain’s Princess of Asturias Award for the Arts as well as the Gold Medal from the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Society in the UK, and in 2022 he was awarded an honorary knighthood of the British Empire as one of the final awards approved by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. In January 1980, Mr. Williams was named nineteenth music director of the Boston Pops Orchestra, succeeding the legendary Arthur Fiedler. He currently holds the title of Boston Pops Laureate Conductor which he assumed following his retirement in December 1993 after fourteen highly successful seasons. He also holds the title of Artist-in-Residence at Tanglewood. Mr. Williams has composed numerous works for the concert stage, among them two symphonies, and concertos commissioned by several of the world’s leading orchestras, including a cello concerto for the Boston Symphony Orchestra, a bassoon concerto for the New York Philharmonic, a trumpet concerto for The Cleveland Orchestra, and a horn concerto for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. In 2009, the Boston Symphony premiered his concerto for harp and orchestra entitled “On Willows and Birches”, and in the same year, Mr. Williams composed and arranged “Air and Simple Gifts” especially for the first inaugural ceremony of President Barack Obama.

Conductor Arnie Roth is a GRAMMY Award-winning artist well known in the world of video game music for his work with legendary composer Nobuo Uematsu and SQUARE ENIX LTD as Music Director, Producer and Conductor of “Distant Worlds: music from FINAL FANTASY,” “Dear Friends: music from FINAL FANTASY,” and “VOICES: music from FINAL FANTASY.” He was chosen to conduct a series of symphonic concerts based on the music themes of various videogame series in Cologne with WDR Rundfunkorchester Köln, including Symphonic Fantasies, Symphonic Shades, and Symphonic Odysseys. AMANDA ACHEN, vocal soloist
A harmonious blend of tradition and innovation defines Amanda Achen’s musical journey. She is a versatile soprano renowned for her “crystalline quality” and emotive performances, gracing stages worldwide in concert halls, jazz clubs, and iconic venues such as Radio City Music Hall, Tokyo Dome, and the Hollywood Bowl. MARY LOUISE BURKE, associate director, Colorado Symphony Chorus
Mary Louise Burke is in her 32nd season with the Colorado Symphony Chorus. In addition to assisting Founding Director and Conductor Laureate Duain Wolfe for many years, she has also prepared the chorus for various Colorado Symphony pops concerts and special projects, including Too Hot to Handel. She is the Creative Director of the Symphony’s annual A Colorado Christmas concert and the Stage Director for this season’s performances of Handel’s Messiah. In the summer of 2022, she conducted the Symphony chorus on a concert tour of Austria. She was the Associate Director of the Colorado Children’s Chorale for many years, participating in hundreds of concerts and dozens of the Chorale’s regional, national and international tours. She was also Vocal Director of the Children’s Chorale, where she provided specialized vocal coaching and opera preparation. With an expertise in vocal technique, Burke frequently leads seminars in vocal and choral techniques for area church and community choirs. She is the Vocal Advisor at Montview Presbyterian Church and sings regularly at Holy Family Church, Denver. She has a Doctorate in Voice Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Colorado.
COLORADO SYMPHONY CHORUS
The Colorado Symphony’s 2025/26 Season marks the 42nd year of the Colorado Symphony Chorus. Under the leadership of Chorus Director and Conductor, Taylor Martin, this outstanding chorus of volunteers joins the Colorado Symphony for numerous concerts each year, performing the great Masterworks, as well as pops concerts, movies and special projects, all to repeated critical acclaim.
The Chorus enjoys a significant international presence, performing in historic venues across Europe. In 2009, in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the chorus, Duain Wolfe conducted the chorus on a concert tour of Europe, presenting Verdi’s Requiem in Budapest, Vienna, Litomysl and Prague; in 2016 the chorus returned to Europe for concerts in Paris, Strasbourg and Munich featuring the Fauré Requiem. In the summer of 2022, the Chorus toured Austria, performing to great acclaim in Vienna, Graz and Salzburg. The Chorus looks forward to their upcoming concert tour of Portugal and Spain where they will perform Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem conducted by Taylor Martin.

Scott Terrell has built a major conducting career through imaginative programs, an engaging presence, and a passion for artistic excellence, teaching, and viability. An ardent champion of new music and diversity of repertoire, he is a conductor whose artistry and intellect has engaged musicians, students, and audiences. Maestro Terrell is Associate Professor of Orchestral Studies, holding the Virginia Martin Howard Chair, at Louisiana State University School of Music.
In demand as a guest conductor, he will make debuts this season with the Oregon Symphony, Pacific Symphony, and Nashville Symphony, while returning to the Utah Symphony, Colorado Symphony, Vancouver Symphony, Bogota Philharmonic, Rochester Philharmonic, and Louisiana Philharmonic.
Passionate about working with aspiring musicians, Terrell is an active guest clinician, teacher, and adjudicator. He has been a regular guest conductor and instructor at the Aspen Music Festival, leading concerts and mentoring students, as well as teaching internationally at the Sofia Symphonic Summit in Bulgaria and the International Masterclass for Conductors in Schladming, Austria.
Maestro Terrell has led organizations including the Philadelphia Orchestra, Houston Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony, San Diego Symphony, Buffalo Philharmonic, Fort Worth Symphony, Baltimore Symphony, Orquesta Simfònica del Valles, National Arts Centre Orchestra, Opera Colorado, Opera Hong Kong, Arizona Opera, Minnesota Opera, Minnesota Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic, Hong Kong Sinfonietta, and Milwaukee Symphony.
Mr. Terrell was Music Director of the Lexington Philharmonic from 2009–2019, transforming the organization through higher artistic standards, diverse programming, expanded collaborations, and community support. A Michigan native, he previously served as Resident Conductor of the Charleston Symphony and Assistant Conductor of the Minnesota Orchestra. He trained at Western Michigan University, the University of Minnesota, and the Aspen Music Festival, where he received the Conducting Prize from David Zinman.

Justin Bartels has served as the Principal Trumpet of the Colorado Symphony since July 2008. Previously he was Principal Trumpet with the Columbus Symphony and had a three-year fellowship with the New World Symphony in Miami Beach. Originally from Pelham, Alabama, Justin attended college at The University of Alabama, The University of Cincinnati CollegeConservatory of Music and has a degree in Trumpet Performance from The Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. He is a student of Marie Speziale, John Rommel, Ed Cord, Alan Siebert, Michael Johnson and Joe Ardovino.
Justin has also performed with the New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, Houston Symphony, Dallas Symphony, Milwaukee Symphony, Saint Louis Symphony, The New York City Ballet, Alabama Symphony, and the Virginia Symphony.
In addition to orchestral performance, Justin has over 15 years of teaching experience at the collegiate level. He currently serves as the Instructor of Trumpet at Colorado State University. He has previously been on faculty at the University of Denver, Regis University, Metropolitan State University, and the University of Colorado. His impact on the field is reflected in the success of his students, many of whom now hold prominent positions in professional orchestras, elite military bands, and arts administration.

Australian conductor Christopher Dragon is the Music Director of Greensboro Symphony Orchestra, newly appointed Music Director of the Philly Pops, former Music Director of the Wyoming Symphony Orchestra and is the Resident Conductor of the Colorado Symphony. He joined the Colorado Symphony in the 2015/16 Season as Associate Conductor – a position he held for four years – and recently signed a new five-year contract with the orchestra through the 2030/31 Season. For three years prior, Dragon held the inaugural position of Assistant Conductor with the West Australian Symphony Orchestra, which gave him the opportunity to work closely with Principal Conductor Asher Fisch.
Dragon has a versatile portfolio ranging from live-to-picture performances including Nightmare Before Christmas, Toy Story and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, a wide variety of collaborations with artists such as the Wu-Tang Clan, Cynthia Erivo and Joshua Bell, to standard and contemporary orchestral repertoire such as Danny Elfman’s Percussion Concerto; all areas of which he has become highly sought after. Christopher has become known for his charisma, high energy and affinity for a good costume, consistently delivering unforgettable performances that has made him an audience favourite.
Recent highlights include his sold-out symphony tour with Gregory Alan Isakov, which included debuts with the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Nashville Symphony, a new orchestral collaboration with Nathaniel Rateliff and his successful German debut with the WDR Funkhausorchester.
Christopher is highly sought after as a guest conductor and has worked with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, National Symphony Orchestra, Nashville Symphony, Atlanta Symphony, Utah Symphony, Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, San Diego Symphony, Pacific Symphony, Omaha Symphony, Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, Chicago Philharmonic, Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Orquestra Sinfônica de Porto Alegre and the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. In Australia, he has guest conducted the Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide and West Australian Symphony Orchestras. His 2015 debut performance at the Sydney Opera House with John Pyke and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra was released on album by ABC Music and won an ARIA the following year.
He has also conducted at numerous festivals including the Breckenridge and Bangalow Music Festivals, with both resulting in immediate re-invitations. At the beginning of 2016 Dragon conducted Wynton Marsalis’ Swing Symphony as part of the Perth International Art Festival alongside Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra.
Christopher began his conducting studies in 2011 and was a member of the prestigious Symphony Services International Conductor Development Program in Australia under the guidance of course director Christopher Seaman. He has also studied with numerous distinguished conductors including Leonid Grin, Paavo and Neeme Jarvi at the Jarvi Summer Festival, Fabio Luisi at the Pacific Music Festival and conducting pedagogue Jorma Panula.
COURTNEY HERSHEY BRESS, harp
Courtney Hershey Bress is a trailblazing soloist, acclaimed educator, and Principal Harpist of the Colorado Symphony since 2001. Known for her magnetic stage presence and brilliant artistry, Bress has dazzled audiences across Asia, Australia, South America, and the U.S., performing with top-tier ensembles including the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and as Principal Harpist and featured soloist with the U.S. Army Field Band, Washington D.C. on many coast-tocoast tours of all 48 continental states.
A passionate champion of new music, Bress premiered Harp of Ages, Michael Daugherty’s first and only harp concerto—written expressly for her—in 2023 with the Colorado Symphony, followed by its international debut with the National Symphony Orchestra of Colombia in Bogotá. The national tour kicked off in fall 2024, and the world premiere recording with the Colorado Symphony, released by Naxos Records, is now streaming on all digital platforms.
Her festival appearances include Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music, Grand Teton Music Festival, and Strings Music Festival, along with acting Principal Harpist with the Baltimore Symphony. Whether performing at the World Harp Congress, the American Harp Society, or on GRAMMY®-nominated recordings (Ancient Voices of Children by George Crumb), Bress brings an unmistakable voice and deep musical insight to every stage.
Beyond performing, Bress is a sought-after master teacher and speaker. She is the Professor of Harp at the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music, Harp Instructor at the Lamont Summer Academy, Lecturer of Harp at the University of Wyoming, and has held faculty roles at Colorado State University and the Eastman School of Music. Her book, For Love of the Harp (Veritas Musica Publishing), offers an inspiring mix of career stories, practical wisdom, and creative tools for arranging and composing for the harp.
Her solo, chamber, and orchestral work appear on Naxos, Bridge, Albany Records, and more. Her latest chamber album, Night Music and Fantasies—a collaboration with violinist Andrés Cárdenes—was released in December 2022 to critical acclaim.

Colorado Symphony Principal Second Violinist Kate Arndt, from Boston, Massachusetts recently completed her Doctor of Musical Arts degree at Yale University under Ani Kavafian, also holding Masters degrees from Yale University in both Music and Musical Arts, and completed her undergraduate studies in Violin Performance at New England Conservatory of Music under Miriam Fried.
As a featured soloist with several orchestras, Kate has performed at venues such as Boettcher Hall, Boston’s Symphony Hall, Fordham University and New England Conservatory’s Jordan Hall. In recent years, Kate has also been active in Europe, including participation in the Gstaad Menuhin Festival in Switzerland, the Kronberg Masterclasses and Concerts in Germany and the IMS Prussia Cove Masterclasses in Cornwall, UK. In the US, Kate has also attended several prestigious summer programs, including Music@Menlo, Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, the Taos School of Music, the Perlman Music Program, and the Sarasota Music Festival, where she was featured in 2019 as a guest soloist with the festival orchestra. In 2021, Kate received first prize at the CSU Bakersfield Competition for her recording of Michael Friedmann’s Fantasy for Solo Violin.
Kate has performed extensively with prominent orchestras throughout the US, including the Colorado Music Festival Orchestra in Boulder, Colorado as the Assistant Concertmaster, with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra as a guest musician, Symphony in C as Principal Second Violin, and as a member of the New York Classical Players.
A passionate chamber musician, Kate has performed with a number of ensembles at venues such as Carnegie Hall, New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, as well as the Curtis Institute of Music and the University of New Orleans with her former group, the Vera Quartet, and as a recurring artist in the Mellon Music Festival in Davis, CA. Kate also attended the Four Seasons Winter Workshop at East Carolina University, where she collaborated with artists such as Robert McDonald, Ida Kavafian, Colin Carr, Misha Amory, Hye- Jin Kim and Ara Gregorian. Her former group, the Isolde Quartet, received an honorable mention at the Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. Kate has collaborated with several existing chamber ensembles, including the Calidore, Callisto and Kodak String Quartets, and as winner of chamber competitions, she was selected to perform as a guest artist with the Borromeo String Quartet and with the Boston Trio.
Kate’s academic interests particularly focus on the contributions of women in classical music, an area she hopes to expand through featuring works by female composers in future performances.

Peter Oundjian is a dynamic presence in the conducting world with an international career leading preeminent orchestras in many of the world’s major musical centers, from New York and Seattle to Amsterdam and Berlin.
He is currently Music Director of the Colorado Symphony, where he served previously as Principal Conductor. He is also Music Director of the Colorado Music Festival (CMF), where he has continued to program and conduct concerts that delight audiences with beloved masterpieces alongside music written by living composers. Over the course of his 14-year tenure as Music Director of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, which concluded in 2018, he reinvigorated the orchestra with acclaimed innovative programming, artistic collaborations, extensive audience growth, national and international tours and several outstanding recordings, including Vaughan Williams’ Orchestral Works, which garnered a Grammy nomination and a Juno Award. Under his leadership, the Symphony underwent a transformation that significantly strengthened its presence in the world.
From 2012-2018, Oundjian served as Music Director of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, where he led the RSNO on several international tours, including North America, China, and a European festival tour with performances at the Bregenz Festival, the Dresden Festival as well as in Innsbruck, Bergamo, Ljubljana, and others. His final appearance with the orchestra as their Music Director was at the 2018 BBC Proms where he conducted Britten’s epic War Requiem.
Oundjian was Principal Guest Conductor and Artistic Advisor of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra from 2005 to 2008 and Artistic Director of the Caramoor International Music Festival in New York from 1997 to 2007. He was also the Music Director of the Amsterdam Sinfonietta from 1998-2002. Throughout his conducting career, Oundjian has appeared as guest conductor with the country’s leading orchestras, including Philadelphia Orchestra, Boston, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Atlanta and San Francisco Symphonies, among others.
In addition to his conducting duties in Colorado, during the 2024/25 season Oundjian leads subscription weeks with the Sarasota Orchestra, the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, the Seattle Symphony, and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra.
Oundjian has been a visiting professor at Yale University’s School of Music since 1981, and has received honorary doctorates from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and The Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto.

Seoyoen Min has served as Principal Cello of the Colorado Symphony since the 2019/20 Season. A native of South Korea, she is a versatile performer with an active career as a soloist, orchestral musician, and chamber artist in the United States and abroad.
As a featured soloist, Seoyoen has appeared with numerous orchestras, including the Colorado Symphony and Wyoming Symphony. A founding member of the Edith String Quartet, she has collaborated with distinguished musicians and ensembles in both traditional and contemporary settings. She remains deeply engaged in Colorado’s chamber music community and performs regularly as a soloist and chamber musician. In addition to her orchestral work, Seoyoen performs at music festivals across the United States, including the Grand Teton Music Festival, and is an enthusiastic educator who teaches privately and presents guest masterclasses. She holds a Master of Music degree from Northwestern University’s Bienen School of Music and a Bachelor of Music degree from Seoul National University.

A young and energetic talent with a quickly-expanding international career, maestro Thiago Tiberio is often praised for mature musicianship, clarity of expression, and accurate technique. His classical, operatic, and film music career includes work with the world’s most prestigious orchestras in countries such as the United States, Japan, United Kingdom, France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Turkey, Bulgaria, South Korea, China, and Brazil. Mr. Tiberio is a specialist in live musical synchronization to film, having led orchestras in scoring sessions during most of his career. Fusing his conducting experience with an award-winning training as a composer, he has arranged, orchestrated, and directed concert adaptations of a variety of films, most notably Love Actually, The Hunger Games, Cinema Paradiso, The Goonies, Coraline, Bridget Jones’ Diary, Get Out, Grease, and Twilight. Mr. Tiberio’s awards include an Emmy, a Luso-Brazilian Award from the United Nations, and an International Brazilian Press Award. He was the first Western conductor to perform in the Great Hall of the People in Tiananmen Square, Beijing, with La La Land in Concert. At Disney’s request, he has premiered Star Wars Live in Concert in France, Portugal, and Brazil, as well as the fully-orchestrated version of Coco in Concert at Ravinia Festival, 2019. Yumi Hwang-Williams, Concertmaster of the Colorado Symphony since 2000, is an American violinist of exceptional musicianship who is recognized both for her stylish performances of the classics and her commitment to the works of present-day composers.
Strings magazine calls her “a modern Prometheus” who has “emerged as a fiery champion of contemporary classical music.” Her interpretations of concertos by Thomas Adès, Aaron Jay Kernis, Michael Daugherty, and Christopher Rouse have earned critical acclaim as well as enthusiastic approval from the composers. She has collaborated with the Joffrey Ballet (Chicago) in a world premiere of Bold Moves, with ten performances of Adès’ Concentric Paths for violin and orchestra choreographed by Ashley Page. The Colorado Symphony presented the world premiere of Rising Phoenix, violin concerto written for Yumi by Daniel Kellogg in 2016. In 2018, PENTATONE label released 2 disc centennial celebration of Isang Yun’s music with Yumi, Dennis Russel Davies, and The Bruckner Orchestra Linz (Austria) of the Violin Concerto No. 1, solo piece, and work with piano — a culmination of a decade-long project of Korea’s most controversial composer.
Yumi is frequently heard as soloist in her capacity as Concertmaster with the Colorado Symphony and occasionally has stepped in as last minute replacement, with Sibelius Concerto in 2017, and recently with Bach Double Violin Concerto featuring Chris Thile on mandolin. She has appeared with other major orchestras both in the U.S. and abroad, including the London Symphony, the Cincinnati Symphony, Indianapolis Symphony, Sinfonieorchester Basel (Switzerland), and the Bruckner Orchester Linz (Austria), Brno Philharmonic (Czech Republic) with conductors Marin Alsop, Dennis Russell Davies, Hans Graf, Paavo Järvi, Peter Oundjian, Markus Stenz, among others.
Prior to joining the Colorado Symphony, Yumi served as Principal Second Violin for the Cincinnati Symphony. In addition, she previously served as Concertmaster of the Cabrillo Festival Orchestra for 13 summers, has performed as Guest Concertmaster for the National Arts Centre Orchestra, Ottawa, at the invitation of Music Director Pinchas Zukerman and has been Guest Concertmaster with The Singapore Symphony Orchestra. She continues to play Guest First Violinist with the Philadelphia Orchestra, with whom she has a long standing association.
Yumi began violin studies at the age of 10 in Philadelphia at the Girard Academic Music Program (GAMP), a public music magnet school, one year after emigrating from South
Korea. She was a soloist with Philadelphia Orchestra at age 13 and was accepted to the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music at age 15, where she received her Bachelor of Music degree. Currently, she is Adjunct Violin Professor at the University of Denver, Lamont School of Music, and is actively involved in advancing the arts in the community through numerous local concerts, chamber music collaborations, and supporting the symphony. In 2021 during the heart of the COVID lockdown, Yumi and Michelle DeYoung, world class singer, co-founded ENSEMBLE CHARITÉ which donates all proceeds from concerts to the partnering charity organization.

Praised by The New York Times for his “elegant, velvety tone” and by The Guardian as “a ballet in itself,” violist Richard O’Neill is recognized as one of the leading instrumentalists of his generation. A GRAMMY and EMMY Award winner and recipient of an Avery Fisher Career Grant, he has appeared as soloist with major orchestras including the London Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Seoul Philharmonic, BBC Symphony, and Kremerata Baltica, collaborating with conductors such as Andrew Davis, Osmo Vänskä, Vladimir Jurowski, and Yannick Nézet-Séguin. Since 2020, he has served as violist of the renowned Takács Quartet.
As a recitalist and chamber musician, O’Neill has performed in many of the world’s premier venues, including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Walt Disney Concert Hall, Wigmore Hall, the Louvre, and Seoul Arts Center. A dedicated advocate for contemporary music, he has collaborated with composers including Lera Auerbach, Mason Bates, Elliott Carter, Unsuk Chin, and Huang Ruo, premiering numerous works written for him.
A recording artist with Deutsche Grammophon and Universal Music, O’Neill has released ten solo albums and earned international acclaim for his recordings of Schoenberg and Christopher Theofanidis. He currently serves on the faculty of the University of Colorado Boulder College of Music and the Music Academy of the West, while also maintaining an active international performance, recording, and teaching schedule spanning North America, Europe, and Asia.
