COMPANY IN RESIDENCE Alpine Artist Collective (AAC) is a multi-disciplinary team of artists, united by a shared love for the natural world. Their mission is to connect humans to nature through art, and they believe in the power of art to inspire action. AAC artists play a key role in communicating environmental issues in a way that helps audiences connect emotionally to nature, climate change, and other environmental challenges faced today. AAC performances and events offer transformative experiences, and members of the collective create, teach, and perform across the front range of Colorado.
CHOREOGRAPHER BIOGRAPHIES
Madeline Jazz Harvey, Associate Professor and CSU Dance Lab Founder/Director, is a dance educator, choreographer, and performer specializing in classical and contemporary ballet. She performed professionally with Charlotte Ballet from 2004-2010, with Carolina Ballet Theatre under Hernan Justo from 2010-2017, and with Judy Bejarano’s IMPACT Dance Company from 2018-2025. Madeline’s choreography has been featured in concerts and festivals across the nation. Her résumé includes over 50 original works created for various professional and collegiate venues. Human connection and vulnerability drive her creative process. She values collaboration and is honored to have co-created works with composers, psychologists, visual artists, and community members. Madeline holds an MFA in Choreography from Jacksonville University and a BA and Professional Training Certificate in Dance from the University of North Carolina, where she received the 2024 Distinguished Alumni Award. Her recent projects examine the artistry of parenting through dance. She is honored to be the 2025 recipient of the College of Liberal Arts Excellence in Undergraduate Mentorship Award, and Ann Gill Faculty Development Award from Colorado State University. She is grateful for the opportunity to work with young dancers as they explore and discover their artistry at Colorado State University.

is
a
Colorado-based
dancer,
choreographer, and environmental artist. She began her dance training in her hometown of Santa Fe, NM at the School of Aspen Santa Fe Ballet. She attended high school at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts and went on to receive her BFA in Dance Performance from SUNY Purchase College in January 2018. Over the past eight years, Claire has performed professionally with the Merce Cunningham Trust, Meow Wolf, T2 Dance Company, Hannah Kahn Dance Company, Impact Dance Company, and others. Additionally, Claire has been an instructor of dance over the past six years, first as a member of the dance faculty at EnFace Studios and Premier School of Dance, and later as a guest instructor at Canyon Concert Ballet and Colorado State University. In 2019, Claire founded what is currently known as Alpine Artist Collective (AAC) with a mission to connect humans to nature through art. Since then, Claire has choreographed and collaboratively produced 1-3 performances each year, reaching over 4,200 audience members and supporting over 100 artists. As of 2025, AAC is collectively led by Claire and four fellow member artists, and continues to use art to educate communities across the front range of Colorado about the environment. In addition to her creative endeavors, Claire received her Masters of the Environment from the University of Colorado, Boulder in 2022. She currently leads the engagement team at OneEnergy Renewables, a nationwide clean energy developer specializing in utility-scale solar energy. Julia Cooper-Pelkey is a teacher, artist, and choreographer. She began her career in Fort Collins, Colorado as a Canyon Concert Ballet Company member, working with a variety of artists including Lorita Travaglia and Bobby Ball. She earned her BFA from The University of Wyoming, under the direction of Jennifer Deckert, Lawrence Jackson, Marsha Knight, Margaret Wilson, and Aaron Wood. She has studied with companies such as American Repertory Theatre, Trey McIntyre Project, Alonzo King Lines Ballet, Repertory Dance Theatre, Ririe Woodberry, and Complexions Contemporary Ballet. Julia spent two years dancing in New York City performing with Ballet Inc and Sheep Meadow Dance Theatre, which involved a variety of venues, including the Battery Dance Festival. During her time in the city she taught a wide variety of ages in dance and acting, working with Four Corners Creative and The Peridance School. Julia also had the opportunity to guest with several photographers, working both as a dancer and model. Julia completed her MFA in dance choreography from The University of Iowa. During her three years at Iowa she expanded her choreographic research with a focus on historical context, the use of narrative, and an emphasis on human connection. Julia is
now on faculty at Colorado State University in the dance department. Her academic teaching history includes ballet, pointe, jazz, musical theatre, tap, modern, yoga, ballet pedagogy, dance history, and dance kinesiology. Matthew Harvey, Senior Instructor of Dance, is a dance teacher, choreographer, and performer from Allentown, PA. He received his early dance training at Repertory Dance Theatre, under the direction of Jennifer Haltzman Tracy and Trinette Singleton. After attending summer dance intensives at Joffrey Ballet School and Chautauqua Institute, Matthew began his professional performance career as a trainee with Charlotte Ballet. In 2007, he joined Hernan Justo’s Ballet Greenville (formerly Carolina Ballet Theatre) as a principal dancer and choreographer. He has performed as a guest artist with companies, schools, and universities across the north and southeast regions of the United States, and in various cities in Uruguay. In 2017, Matthew became an instructor of dance at Colorado State University teaching ballet, jazz, and modern techniques. In addition to movement classes, Matthew has been a primary instructor for Understanding Dance, the CSU Dance Program’s Liberal Arts lecture course serving nonmajors. Matthew has been choreographing works since 2006, blending elements of concert and social dance forms to create dynamic music visualizations. Matthew’s choreography employs a minimalist approach to storytelling accompanied by music from artists such as Gorillaz, Queens of the Stone Age, Victor Wooten, Zoe Keating, and Frédéric Chopin. His works have been performed by conservatory studios, Universities, professional companies, and Youth America Grand Prix competitors. Chalina Caton Garcia is a Colorado based choreographer and performer who danced at Colorado State University from 2020 to 2025. Currently she performs with Animus Movement in their secondary company (Ani II) and creates as a freelance choreographer. Drawing from strong foundations in Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz, Modern, Flamenco, Ballroom, and Latin Rhythm her most recent works explore the fusion of classical styles and social dance. Holding collaboration, authenticity, and curiosity at the center of her practice, Chalina hopes to guide dancers and audiences alike through a kaleidoscopic view of the human experience. Chalina’s joy for movement was shaped by years of volunteering, teaching, and artistic development at Keshet Center for the Arts (Albuquerque, NM), Magnify Dance Center (Albuquerque, NM), and Colorado State University (Fort Collins, CO). Her pedagogical experience spans many age groups, genres of dance, and diverse communities. She aims to spread her passion for
dance through all avenues in and outside of the studio and would like to send her thanks to all those at CSU who have helped her along the way. Rylie Niemann is a driven and multifaceted student at Colorado State University pursuing a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing, alongside a Bachelor of Arts in Dance. This unique combination reflects her passion for both analytical and creative sides of leadership, from brand strategy and consumer insight to artistic expression and performance. Beyond the classroom, Rylie works as a head instructor at Just for Kix dance studio, where she designs and leads curriculum for dancers spanning a wide range of ages and skill levels. This role has sharpened her ability to communicate clearly, adapt quickly, and lead with empathy. Rylie thrives at the intersection of creativity and strategy and is excited to carry that blend into a future career where she can make a meaningful impact.
