Golden to require permit parking in neighborhood west of Mines campus

WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 12, 2024

$2

LATE SUMMER

Implementation slated for mid-October BY CORINNE WESTEMAN CWESTEMAN@COLORADOCOMMUNITYMEDIA.COM

To protect residents’ street parking, the City of Golden is establishing a permit parking zone in the Parfet Estates neighborhood, which is near the Colorado School of Mines campus. Starting in mid-October, Parfet Estates Drive, Yucca Court and Kohinoor Place will have permit parking only from 7 a.m.-6 p.m. every day year-round. The City Council unanimously approved the decision at an Aug. 27 meeting to address residents’ complaints that Mines students, staff and others have been parking in their neighborhood and walking to campus. The area is directly west of the main Mines campus on 19th Street, and just north of the Mines Park area. City staff members have confirmed they will be helping Parfet Estates residents sign up for permits in the coming weeks, including at a forthcoming popup event. More details will be on the city’s social media channels and in the Weekly Update, they said. As City Engineer Joseph Puhr described in a recent memo to City Council, many Mines students and staff members have been parking on Parfet Estates Drive and walking to campus.
