Golden considers alternate routes for Peaks-toPlains Trail

As their compatriots competed on the other side of the world, Goldenites infused that same spirit of athleticism and camaraderie into their monthly ride around town. On July 30, hundreds of cyclists donned their Team USA gear and star-spangled shirts for the Golden Bike Cruise, a summertime staple and fundraiser for local nonprofits. The theme, which changes every month, was “red, white and blue” in honor of the ongoing 2024 Olympics in Paris. The event, which is the last Tuesday of the month May through September, features music by a local band and Golden-based food and beer vendors atop the Armory parking garage. As the Clear Creek corridor sees more foot and bicycle traffic, particularly in the summer, the Golden community is considering an alternate route for the Peaks to Plains Trail. The goal would be to alleviate congestion and reduce user conflicts while maintaining a highquality trail for both residents and visitors to enjoy, local officials said. The City of Golden outlined three alternate routes, along with a fourth option to update the current route along the Clear Creek corridor. All of them would run from the current Peaks to Plains Trail connection near Ford and Seventh streets to the current trail junction just east of U.S. Highway 6 and Clear Creek Canyon Park.
