Back in the saddle again

Golden starts design process for new municipal center

Parade participants embody Buffalo Bill Days’ past, future BY CORINNE WESTEMAN CWESTEMAN@COLORADOCOMMUNITYMEDIA.COM

Decades ago, the Buffalo Bill Saddle Club members rode their horses up Lookout Mountain to their namesake’s gravesite. The return trip to downtown Golden became a fun tradition that fellow equestrians carry on to this day — along with car enthusiasts, uniformed pedestrians and others brave enough to trek Washington Avenue in front of thousands of people. Hundreds of parade participants literally and figuratively saddled up July 27 for the “Best of the West” Parade, the centerpiece of Golden’s annual Buffalo Bill Days festival. “It brings back good memories and hometown vibes,” former Golden resident Jackie Buffalo Bill reenactor R.D. Melfi addresses the crowd during the annual “Best of the Murphy said. SEE PARADE, P2

City Councilors, petitioners continue dialoguing about financing options BY CORINNE WESTEMAN CWESTEMAN@COLORADOCOMMUNITYMEDIA.COM

The Heart of Golden project is moving forward, as city officials have hired an architecture firm to design a new municipal center. If the city follows its projected timeline, designs should be ready for public feedback sometime this fall or early winter. Construction is slated for next summer and, if completed on time, the City of Golden would move operations into the new municipal center in late 2026 or early 2027. During its July 23 meeting, the City Council unanimously approved a $2.6 million contract with Denver-based Handprint Architecture for comprehensive architectural and design services. SEE CENTER, P4
