Golden’s newest statue honors generations of volunteer firefighters BY CORINNE WESTEMAN CWESTEMAN@COLORADOCOMMUNITYMEDIA.COM
Golden has two new firefighters. While Golden Fire Department’s volunteer and paid personnel will leave for their daily callouts, find other jobs or retire, these two will be outside the downtown station all day, every day in perpetuity. During a June 29 ceremony, the department and its supporters unveiled a new statue dedicated to Golden’s past, present and future volunteer firefighters. The statue, titled “Follow Your Passion,” depicts a male and female firefighter helping a child. The firefighters are wearing GFD gear, while the child represents the department’s goal to protect and inspire the next generation, officials described. Both current and former GFD volunteers said they took great pride in the statue and the generations of firefighters it represents. “It will be part of Golden now forever,” Capt. Tina Gustafson said.
