Albino H. Infante

Albino was born February 23, 1942 in Brownsville, Texas to Faustino Infante and Carolina Hernandez. He met, fell in love and married Modesta Rios in 1960. They made their way to Colorado and settled in Brighton. Together they had six children: Graciela Infante (died as an infant), Udelia Rocha (Manuel), Roger, Rosa Salazar (Joe), Alvino Jr. (Jennifer), and Herverto AKA Gibby. He was a dedicated hardworking farmer with Sakata Farms. He enjoyed working the fields and a good barbecue with his friends and family.

Arthur (Art) Towers, 90 of Montrose, CO passed away peacefully at home on May 21, 2021. He was born in Burlington, CO January 8th, 1931, to Marion and Opal Towers. He served on the school board of Adams County District 14 from May 1963 through January 1973 and was president for several of those years. He also served on the South Adams County volunteer fire department for several years and was Fire Chief from 1973 through 1975. He was also involved with the boy scouts and was a boy scout leader for Troup 121 for several years. He started his own Tax Practice in Commerce City in 1954 and eventually sold it and started one in Parker, Colorado with his wife Carol where his daughter Deborah also joined him in the business. He eventually semi-retired and moved to Montrose, Colorado where he and his wife Carol had their own tax practice. The front range practice was then taken over by Deb, Wanda & Gale. He was preceded in death by his father Marion, his mother Opal, his sister Vonnie, brother Lester, sister Violet Windell and brother Robert. He was also preceded in death by his first wife Cora and grandson

February 13, 1948 - June 26, 2021 Donna Jane Kampbell, 73, of Commerce City, CO, passed away peacefully at her home and was welcomed into the Lord’s presence on Saturday, June 26, 2021. Donna was born on February 13, 1948 to Vaughn Fickel and Emma Keane Fickel in Alliance, NE. She grew up in Marsland and Hemingford, NE. She attended Hemingford schools, where she was a cheerleader and exceled in academics and sports activities. She married Paul Kampbell on December 23, 1969. They made their home in Colorado. Donna worked for the federal government for four years. She then worked as a legal secretary for 20 years. Then Donna worked with Paul at Eastside Heating doing accounting work until she retired. Donna and Paul traveled extensively to many foreign countries and hosted three exchange students over the years. Donna was a very giving person and donated to many charities over the years. She always wanted to help anyone that she could. Donna enjoyed traveling, working in the yard, gardening, spending time with family, and spoiling her grandchildren. Donna kept her house in tip-top shape even with her full time work and taking care of her family. She was a proud mother and

She began teaching piano at age 16 and continued to do so throughout her life, giving several lessons on the day she died. She and her family moved to the house on Myrtle Street in Brighton in 1958, and she lived there until her death. She was organist for the Brighton United Methodist Church for 48 years, and was active in the Brighton Euterpian Society and the Northland Chorale. For years she accompanied band students at the state solo & ensemble festival, donating many hours of her time assisting local young musicians. Her back

Marian Bruns died suddenly in her home in Brighton on December 4, 2020. She was predeceased by husband Richard and son David, and is survived by her sons Alan and Kevin, 4 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. She was the daughter of Lionel W. and Mattie (Meister) Kinsey and niece of Mary Meister of Humboldt, Nebraska, and sister of Norman Kinsey of Tucson, AZ, all now deceased.

She was an avid snow- and water-skier and ice skater, and took full advantage of the slopes and Sand Hill lake until late old age forced her to quit. Husband Richard died in 2007 after 58 years of happy marriage. Subsequently she joined the Trinity United Methodist Church choir in Denver, and had the opportunity to travel to Italy and perform with that group. In recent years Marian received a great deal of enjoyment from working with her adult piano students. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and teacher. She is greatly missed. A memorial service will be held for Marian on July 10, 2021, at 10:30AM at Brighton United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to the Audubon Society in Marian’s memory.

Bob Sakata’s name will adorn a new education campus in the 27J Schools system in Brighton. The Bob Sakata Education Campus will occupy the space where North Elementary School stands. Students there will attend other schools in the district because of declining enrollment. “Repurposing the facility and its grounds to better serve our students is a tribute to Bob Sakata, who spent his life serving his family and those around him,” said Superintendent Chris Fiedler in a statement. Sakata grew up in Japan where, according to a statement, his family earned “a meager living growing vegetables and trees on a small plot of land.” He moved to America when he was 18 and with $30 in his pocket. “You’re learning every day, and every day is like going to school. Every day,” Sakata said in the statement. “Life experiences gave me perspective. Learning becomes something

you do subconsciously if your mind is sharp.” Sakta talked with students in their schools about his story and gave children the encouragement to stay strong “in the face of struggles,” the press statement said. “Bob embodies many of the values of the students we stress today,” Fiedler said in the statement. “We’re so fortunate to have a role model in the community whose life shows us how to be successful in our hearts, in our work and in our lives.” The Sakata Campus will be at 89 N. Sixth Ave. The statement said it will have support for families and students, including: Specialized education services; Advisors for middle-school students who have had challenges in traditional classrooms; A family resource center; A health clinic; A transportation hub; and Meal distribution “Giving back to your community, for me, hasn’t been an issue because of motivation,” Sakata said in the statement. “It’s just natural. When you get something, you give back in some way.” A back-to-school and grand reopening event is on tap for Tuesday, Aug. 7, according to 27J spokeswoman Janelle Asmus.

Jenni Grafton has been named director of the Adams County Community and Economic Development Department. Grafton started June 29. “The remarkable growth in the county brings challenges, and Jenni is well-equipped to lead our CED team as they navigate high-profile land use, zoning, and oil and gas regulations,” said Adams County Manager Raymond Gonzales in a statement. “Having local experience and expertise will certainly shorten the learning curve for Jenni in this critical role.” Grafton has worked in housing and land-use planning roles in nonprofit and governmental organizations, including as the economic policy and development manager

at the city of Westminster. There, she led long-term economic recovery efforts. Those efforts included $3.6 million in business assistance grants and more than $600,000 in housing assistance funds with CARES Act funds, more than $1 million in Community Development Block Grant-Coronavirus (CDBGCV) funds; and more than $540k in tenant-based rental assistance with HOME funds. In her new role with Adams County, Grafton will focus on the “Advancing Adams” trio of plans, including updating the comprehensive plan, creating a transportation master plan and updating the parks, open space and trails plan. In addition, Grafton will be responsible for overseeing development and enacting strategic overlays and enhancing the development review process.
