Colorado’s new, eighth congressional district would include the cities of Arvada, Westminster, Broomfield, Thornton, Brighton and Platteville, a preliminary map drawn by nonpartisan redistricting staff and presented to the state’s Independent Congressional Redistricting Commission on June 23 shows. Staff placed the new district in the north Denver metro area for two reasons, said Jeremiah Barry, a legislative attorney advising the redistricting commissions. “The first reason was we recognize this was the fastest-growing area of the state,” said Barry. “The second was a recognition that although nearly 30% of the population of the state are Hispanics, none of the current seven districts are represented by a Hispanic.” The map is a major first step in the state’s once-a-decade redistricting process. Jackie McGannon 1945 - 2021

Jackalin Irine (Hunter) McGannon, known as Jackie, age 76 of Sterling, Colorado peacefully entered Heaven on June 20, 2021. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 3, 2021 at 11:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church, 130 South 4th Street, Sterling, CO. A luncheon will immediately follow the service. Jackie was born on June 9, 1945 in Maryville, TN to George and Evelyn (Dickerson) Hunter, while her Dad worked in Oak Ridge, Tennessee helping to build the plant for the Manhattan Project. In 1946, after the war ended the family moved back to their hometown of Nashville, Tennessee. The lure of a better paying job called her family to Colorado in 1957. This is where she would attend jr. high and Adams City High School. While attending her brother’s wedding Jackie met the love of her life, the bride’s brother, Patrick. Pat fell hard for Jackie and eventually moved from Chadron, Nebraska to Denver, Colorado to be close to her. It wasn’t long after their meeting and falling in love that they married on February 23, 1962. In 1966, Pat was drafted and relocated to Tacoma, Washington and was deployed to Vietnam in 1967. A highlight of their marriage was the fall of 1967, where the two were reunited, in Hawaii. Together, they would fondly remember this time and the many happy miles they drove exploring the island. After Pat was discharged in 1968, they made their home in Westminster, Colorado where they started their family with their daughter Tricia in 1971 and son Travis in 1975. They later moved to Brighton, Colorado in 1980 where they raised their family. The yearning for wide open spaces, called them to Sterling,

Colorado in 1992 where Jackie lived her remaining years. Jackie spent the kids growing-up years reading stories, taking them on adventures, and was always the first to volunteer for any school activity or extracurricular events. She loved cooking for her family and having them gather. When the children were grown, she returned to work at Northeastern Jr. College, where she was a baker and Grandma to the students. She was a woman of deep faith, a member of First Presbyterian Church in Sterling, Colorado where she played in the handbell choir and was a Deacon. Jackie loved and was there for everyone she ever met, she will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her. She will always be remembered for her loving heart and beautiful smile. Jackie is survived by her husband of 59 years, Pat McGannon, her daughter Tricia (Jay) Jimenez of Grant, Nebraska, son Travis (Jalayne) McGannon of Brighton, Colorado, sister Anna Faye Black of Aurora, Colorado, sisters in law Joyce Bernard, Beverly McGannon of Chadron, Nebraska, and Donna Hunter of Benton, Kentucky. She is also survived by her five Grandsons Trenton (Hannah), Hunter, Garrett, Cutter and Tanner McGannon, and Great Granddaughter Leika McGannon. She was preceded in death by her parents George and Evelyn Hunter, sister Mamie Hunter, brothers George “Billy” Hunter and Tom “Bud” Hunter, and brothers in law Gene McGannon and Boots Bernard. She was a Brighton High School graduate in 1952 and retired from Samsonite Luggage in the 70’s. She was also a seamstress for Blinky of Blinky’s Clubhouse. Jodi bowled in several women’s bowling leagues for many years. She was the original Mrs. Clause in Brighton for over ten years. She went on to become a restaurant /bar owner at the Brothers II Lounge for over forty years; famously known for her lunch specials and Sunday morning breakfasts and menudo. After high school Jodi married her first husband John Trujillo, Jr. and together they had six children. After his passing, she met the love of her life Ernest (Bob) Rojo. They were together for over fifty years. They enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling and taking road trips in their motorhome. When they traveled they would always go with their close friends and family. She was involved in her community by catering the Brighton DECA functions and making sure to take some extra chili with her. She was an avid Broncos fan and season ticket holder. The family would get together at her house for the super bowls and holiday dinners where she would always burn the buns. Survived by her children, Bill Trujillo, Cheryl (Rudy) Montano, Dana Waymire and Robin (Wayne) Lamb;

A special thank you to Jodi’s caregivers in the last months of her life; Sara Martinez, a longtime friend of Jodi’s and Jean McConaghy; along with Cathy, her nurse through Hospice. Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 11:00 a.m., both at St. Augustine Catholic Church, in Brighton, Colorado. There will be no reception following the services.

Molly M. Sack was born on December 23, 1924, in Ft. Lupton, Colorado. Her parents were Kathrine (Bathauer) and Adam Bellender. She was the third of ten siblings. Molly married the love of her life Casper Sack, on January 9, 1945, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Brighton, Colorado. They lived on a farm near Brighton, where they raised four daughters, Carolyn, Linda, Beverly and Janette. Casper and Molly were married nearly 60 years before Casper’s passing in 2004. Molly moved to Brighton after the sale of the farm. Molly’s love of her family and her home kept her very busy. Her family was her joy. She took pride in raising her girls, working alongside Casper on the farm, keeping a spotless home, and growing a colorful flower garden. Her worn down garden hoe was a testament to the hours she spent weeding her garden. Molly had many friends and family sit around her kitchen table through the years, enjoying the rewards of the tantalizing smells coming from her kitchen. Her delicious pies, cakes and German foods were always requested favorites. Anyone who knew Molly, knew she had a beautiful singing voice. Her daughters often woke to their mother’s singing. If she wasn’t singing she was humming and yodeling. Whether in the house or outside, her voice filled the air sharing her beautiful gift with all who were near. She was still singing her favorite songs up until the last weeks of her life. One song that always drew others to sing along was God Bless America. Molly was creative, artistic and displayed many talents. She painted milk cans in beautiful colors and gave them to many family members and friends. Molly embroidered and cross stitched many pictures hung in her home. She crocheted several delicate doilies. Her passion for sewing continued from childhood through recent months. Molly’s sewing talents created costumes, doll clothes and projects for her girls and

grandchildren. She made many clothes for her daughters and herself. The last several years, she sewed beautiful blouses that she proudly wore with earrings to match each one. She was complimented often on how beautiful she was. Molly’s love of Casper and her family was an inspired example to all who knew her. She was a strong presence in her family and always had a giving heart, lending a generous hand to many. There was a fun, spirited side of Molly that shined through her bright blue eyes. Her cheerfulness and laughter were heartwarming, revealing her sense of humor which was quite entertaining. Molly’s Catholic faith, praying the rosary, and honoring the Blessed Virgin Mary were an important part of her life. Molly is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Ron Wollum, Beverly and Vince Sauter, Janette and Mike Stremel; grandchildren, Brian and Rhonda Lambrecht, Bruce and Pam Lambrecht, Brent and Lynnette Lambrecht, Jason and Susan Wollum, Amy and Mike Hofer, Mathew Sauter, Michael Sauter and Kevin Margoluis; and great-grandchildren, Brenna, Rianne, Brayden, Kendyl, Kate, Dillon and wife Taylor and Emma Lambrecht, Tyler and wife Brianna, Ryan and Lily Wollum, Alex, Molly and Madelyn Hofer and Levi Margoluis; brother, Pete Bellender; and sisters, Helen Schott, Rosie Price and Virginia Teopfer. The Colorado Rapids, in conjunction with Commerce City, will host their 4thFest celebration with a post-game fireworks display at DICK’s Sporting Goods Park Sunday, July 4, according to a statement from the Rapids. The Independence Day holiday game, which has been a tradition for the club since its inception 26 years ago, will once again be accompanied by what the team called the state’s largest public fireworks display

postgame. “We couldn’t be more excited to bring back one of our most cherished club traditions,” said Alyssa Bruno, Rapids vice president of marketing. “It’s an event we look forward to the moment the season schedule is announced, and we’re thrilled to once again partner with Commerce City to host 4thFest and share in our community’s 4th of July celebrations.” “Commerce City looks forward to hosting the largest fireworks show in the state with the Colorado Rapids,” said Commerce City Mayor

by U.S. Rep. Diana Degette, a Denver Democrat, would encompass only Denver, dropping portions of Arapahoe and Jefferson counties. The 6th District, represented by U.S. Rep. Jason Crow, a Centennial Democrat, would lose some of its northern half while continuing to include Aurora, Centennial and Littleton. Both of those districts went heavily Democratic in the 2018 attorney general contest, and, along with the 2nd District

in Boulder and Larimer counties, are considered safe seats for that party. Nonpartisan staff used the results of the 2018 attorney general contest, the closest statewide race in a recent, nonpresidential election year, as well as voter registration figures to measure political competitiveness of the redrawn districts. Based on results of the attorney general race, Districts 1 and 2 would be solidly Democratic while Districts 4 and 5 would be solidly Republican. Republicans would have an advantage of nearly 10 percentage points in the 3rd District and

3 percentage points in the 7th District, while Democrats would hold a 12.7 percentage point advantage in the 6th District and 7.3 percentage point advantage in the 8th District. Colorado Democratic Party Chairwoman Morgan Carroll said she was disappointed by the map, arguing the proposed districts advantage the GOP. “While this preliminary plan seems to put a thumb on the scale for Republicans, it is too soon to know how the commissioners will change them,” she said in a statement. timillionaire Kent Thiry, who backed the constitutional amendments that created the independent commissions, also weighed in after the release of the preliminary map. “These congressional seats belong to the people, not to a political party or interest,” said Thiry. “It’s still early in the process, but it appears the commission is responding to the mandate that it draw competitive districts whenever and wherever possible.” Redistricting staff also isn’t convinced voter registration and outcomes from the 2018 attorney general race are the best metrics, Barry said.
