A New Zealand aerospace company is joining the race to create a horizontal take-off and landing spaceplane that will fly from Colorado above the earth’s atmosphere and fly back down before landing on a runway. Dana Paul Crocker, also known to many as “Daytona Dana”, age 58, of Littleton, CO passed away unexpectedly, yet peacefully, on May 29, 2021. Born October 4, 1962 and a native to Colorado where he lived in Aurora, CO until age 23 then moved to Thousand Oaks, CA until 1999, before returning to the mile-high state. He is survived by his daughter, Shanda Tillman (fiancé Chris) of Rifle, CO; grandson, Ryatt Hunter; mother, Paula (Husband Leon) Meurer of Parker, CO; father Dave (Wife Kay) Crocker of Foxfield, CO; stepmother Jo Doornbos of Paradise Valley, AZ; brother Darren (Wife Lacy) Crocker of Brighton, CO; brother Vernon Doornbos of Parker, CO; sister Susie (Husband Louis) LoSasso of Aurora, CO; nephew Colton (fiancée Meghan) Crocker, niece Kayla Doornbos, nephew Joey LoSasso, and nieces Makenna Crocker and Gracie Crocker. Dana had countless friends that he met along his life’s journey. He always went out of his way to help

He received several awards, published articles, and as an adjunct professor taught in the education departments of 4 different institutions of higher learning in Colorado, Illinois, and Florida.

Newton is survived by his wife, Suzanne. They were Greenville College sweethearts and married in 1960. Surviving are three children, Bryan of Stuttgart, Arkansas and wife Lucretia; Jeffrey Fink of Boerne, Texas and wife Jeanette; and Michelle Wright of San Luis Obispo, CA and husband, Eric, and 10 grandchildren, Elizabeth, Bryan Jr., Lauren, Theodore, Evan, Alex, Landon, Quinn, Jenson, and Jocelyn, and 3 great-grandchildren, Elowyn, Sage and Finley.

Surviving siblings include brothers, Dennis, of Murfreesboro, TN, George, of Grand Junction, CO and Tim of Denver, CO. He is preceded in death by his parents Walker and Alice Fink, his twin sister Nancy Lower, and sister Mary Alice.

Polis signs air quality, tutoring bills at Adams City High School STAFF REPORTS

Gov. Jared Polis stopped by Adams City High School June 16 to sign a pair of bills into law. One directs $10 million from the state’s general fund for grants for public school air quality improvement projects. The other created a high-impact tutoring program to address student learning loss and unfinished learning because of the pandemic. According to a Facebook post, Adams 14 Board of Education President Ramona Lewis said it was exciting to have the governor sign these important bills at one of the district’s own schools. “It’s great to have the governor here to come sign these bills because they will not only benefit district

[Adams] 14, but all the districts in the state of Colorado,” Lewis said. “The air quality for a lot of districts is an important thing because our buildings are getting older and older. We are very proud the governor chose Adams 14 and Commerce City.” State Sen. Dominick Moreno, an Adams City High School graduate, said he was proud to have worked on these bills with his home district in mind. “For me, it was really important to have the bill signings here in Adams 14 because this is the school district that I went to, and particularly, to bring that opportunity to young people,” he said. “Not many young people have the opportunity to see a bill signed into law by the governor of the state of Colorado.”

Irreza sentenced for attempted murder of AdCo deputy STAFF REPORTS

Cesar Irreza, who pled guilty in April to attempted first-degree murder with extreme indifference charges in connection with an incident involving an Adams County sheriff’s deputy. will spend 20 years in prison. The announcement came from 17th Judicial District Attorney Brian Mason’s office. Irreza, 30, also entered a guilty plea to vehicular eluding.

The incident happened near East 148th Avenue and Lanewood Street, east of Brighton, in early April 2020. A press statement from spokesman Chris Hopper said deputies were investigating a possible home-invasion situation. Irreza, who was driving a white Cadillac, left the area and led deputies on a high-speed chase. The statement said speeds were more than 100 mph. “When Irreza reached the intersection of Tower Road and East 120th Avenue, in Commerce City, he

drove into a Jeep Renegade,” Hopper’s statement said. “Irreza continued forward and struck an Adams County sheriff’s deputy who was standing in the shoulder with stop sticks. The injured deputy said to his colleagues on scene, ‘I’ve never been so close to being killed.’” Deputies eventually stopped Irreza and took him into custody. The defendant was not a suspect in the original home invasion call, Hopper said, but Irreza did have an active warrant for his arrest stemming

from his felony parole. “The brazen and dangerous conduct of this defendant nearly cost an Adams County sheriff’s deputy his life,” Mason said in the statement. “I am pleased that justice was served in this case and that the defendant will not present a danger to the community for the foreseeable future.” The two sentences will run concurrently.

They have several hangars and an air traffic control tower with approach capabilities to support both aviation and aerospace capabilities. “We’ve completed an airport master plan and just completed the spaceport master plan so that we can look at the infrastructure developments that are needed, both for space uses and the aviation uses to make sure that we dovetail those together very carefully,” said Ruppel. “Adams County is completing a sub-area plan to make sure that we have compatible types of businesses and operations, both around the

facility and on the facility.”

Dawn Aerospace plans Dawn Aerospace is a space transportation company and built a satellite propulsion system that is two years old and is currently in orbit. “It allowed us to mature rapidly as a company, both in the technical domain and the commercial domain. And it empowers us as we move on into the launch capabilities, and make sure that we’ve got all of the business systems in place to do this robustly,” said Powell. “From the satellite propulsion, the next stage is the suborbital system, and to the Aurora spaceplane. “It is like commercial flight; it’s accessible, it’s available, it’s very cost-effective and it the goal we are working towards.” The Aurora Spaceplanes will also be built as a reusable horizontal vehicle that will take off into suborbital or orbital space and fly back down landing at a runway to refuel and continue to fly multiple times per day. The first model, the Aurora Mach 2, a sub-orbital system, will be the size of a car and will land to pick up payloads and equipment. The Mach 3 orbital system will be the size of a small business jet and pick up larger payloads, such as large satellites. There are no plans yet to build a passenger spaceplane for travel. Dawn Aerospace does not have a solid plan yet as to when it will make a presence in Colorado. There are bureaucratic processes to complete, such as licenses, Powell said. “It’s not an overnight process. So, unfortunately, it’s not going to be a next week or next month. This is a very important first step for us and we’re excited,” said Powell.

Adams City graduate Gerardo Caldera was aiming for 12 high-school athletic letters. He would have had 11 (baseball in 2020) if not for the coronavirus pandemic. As it turned out, he finished with 10. The 11th would have been as a wrestler three years ago. But his weight-class competition was Christian Rowell, who won a state title. Even so, Caldera is happy. “I set out to get 12 letters, one in every sport but I had a tough freshman year in wrestling,” Caldera

said. “But after that I knew I couldn’t get 12. So, I had to get 11.” Caldera said there was no instance the past four years when he wanted to stop pursuing the athletic letters. In fact, he

Caldera signed a letter of intent to play football at Waldorf University in Forest City, Iowa. “I developed myself as a man, having to be more responsible and maintaining good grades, just always being on top of things and how much easier things are when you’re on top of things,” he said. “I do regret not being in the weight room as much as I was my junior and senior year. I feel if I would have been in the weight room since my freshman year, my body physique would look

different and better but also I would have more power in all my sports.” Caldera was one of four Eagles’ athletes to sign college letters of intent this spring. “The advice I’d give folks trying to balance sports and academics is pace yourself,” he said. “Try to finish as much work in the classroom so when you get home you have less and more time for studying plays and being in the weight room.” “It’ll be difficult at first. But eventually you’ll get the hang of it,” he said. “One more thing -- just be patient with everything. Good things will come slowly but surely.”

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that, pursuant to § 32-1-204(1), C.R.S., a Service Plan (the “Service Plan”) for the proposed Buckley Crossing Metropolitan District No. 2 (the “District”) has been filed with the Clerk for the City of Commerce City, and is available for inspection in the office of the City Manager, 7887 E. 60th Avenue, Commerce City, Colorado. A public hearing on the Service Plan will be held by the City Council of Commerce City (the “City

Council”) on July 19, 2021, at 6:00 p.m., electronically via Zoom or as soon thereafter as the City Council may hear such matter. The purpose of the hearing is to consider the Service Plan and to form a basis for adopting a resolution approving, conditionally approving or disapproving the Service Plan in accordance with § 32-1-204.5, C.R.S. The primary purpose of the District is to finance water, sanitary sewer, storm sewer, street, traffic and safety, and park and recreation public improvements and services. A general description of the land contained within the boundaries of the proposed District is as follows: North of 112th Avenue and South of 120th Avenue, between Buckley Road and Tower Road, and bordering on E-470, containing approximately 200 acres. Pursuant to § 32-1-203(3.5), C.R.S., any person owning property within the proposed District may request that such property be excluded from the District by submitting a written request to the City Council no later than ten (10) days prior to the public hearing c/o City Clerk, 7887 E. 60th Ave, Commerce City, CO 80022.
