Parker Water happy with rainfall, touts expansion and ability to serve community’s future needs BY HALEY LENA HLENA@COLORADOCOMMUNITYMEDIA.COM
It takes various water sources, facilities and technology to provide residents with everyday water in the Parker community. Although some may be tired of the record-breaking amount of rain, the Parker Water and Sanitation District has benefited from the rain. The Rueter-Hess Reservoir hit the lowest storage of the year on November 10, 2022 with a depth of 86.79 acre feet and volume of 16,736 acre feet of water. An acre foot of water equals about 326,000 gallons, or enough water to cover an acre of land 1-foot deep. Within seven months from hitting its lowest point, on June 16, 2023 SEE WATER, P6

After much discussion, the town council approved the annexation and zoning for AvalonBay Communities, Inc. to annex 33.4 acres of unincorporated land known as the Coyles/Perkins property located in the southeast corner of Stroh Ranch and Crowfoot Valley Road. The property is undeveloped except for a single family house with several accessory structures and is currently zoned as agricultural in Douglas County. According to the Parker 2035 Master Plan, the property falls within identified as an urban growth boundary, making it eligible for annexation. Prior to the recent vote, the town had already established the Coyle/ Perkins property as a good candidate for future annexation. According to Julia Duncan, of the town’s community development department, the parcels are proposed to be zoned mixed-use for the AvalonBay - Parker Planned Development. A planned development is a tract or parcel of land controlled by one or more landowners developed under a single development plan. It establishes standards for the development and improvement of the property and regulates items such as uses, height, lot converge and density.
