How Arapahoe County officials collected and counted the primary ballots Ballots go through multiple stages at the election office BY ISABEL GUZMAN SPECIAL TO COLORADO COMMUNITY MEDIA
Arapahoe County’s Deputy Director of Elections Bill Mast said many voters turned in ballots at the last min-
ute for the June 25 primary elections. Many voted early, through the mail or at drop boxes, but there’s a good number of people who waited until the last minute. “The voting trend of moving towards (voting on) Monday and Tuesday of election week has really happened in recent years,” Mast said. “We started increasing more drop boxes… and that’s when things started shifting
towards later returns from our voters.” It’s one of the county’s ways of meeting voters where they are — however they want to vote. Residents dropped ballots off in designated boxes and voted in person. Whatever the method, election employees worked to secure their ballots for counting.
