“Community Through Connection” is the name given to the Town of Elizabeth’s new communication plan. On March 24, Mayor Nick Snively sat down with the Elbert County News at Ziggi’s Coffee in Elizabeth to discuss the communication plan and its goal of creating a stronger connection between the town and its residents. This year’s program will run from June 1 to July 31. “The 2023 theme this year is `All Together Now,’” said Amalá Perry, activities services guide for the Pines & Plains Libraries (Kiowa, Elbert and Elizabeth branches). “The theme is about bringing together residents and local businesses.”
During the conversation, Snively explained that communication is a vitally important and controllable factor in the success of a thriving community. For the Town of Elizabeth, their goal for the Community Through Communication plan is to fill knowledge gaps and eliminate space for residents to make incorrect assumptions about various aspects of the town. Snively explained that these gaps have grown wider as the town has grown and people have become more divided. “When you don’t communicate something, there are gaps in people’s understanding. People will often fill in those gaps with assumptions that are incorrect or different. We could have filled in those gaps for them,” explained Snively. “We have a community that as it’s grown, we see a division between the older part of town and the newer neighborhoods like Gold Creek and Legacy Village. National Library Week is kicking off its annual spotlight on the benefits of libraries around the
United States. To celebrate, Elbert County’s Pines & Plains Libraries have announced their exciting summer reading program. Each year, a team of coordinators from across the system’s four libraries work together to provide residents of all ages fun programs to enhance summer reading. The program is open to children and adults of all ages. Program-related activities and challenges are divided into four age categories:
