ot sure where to skate this season? Wanting to try it for the first time? The Streets at SouthGlenn’s ice rink — where many beginners are giving it a shot — is in full swing this season. Before Christmas, Santa got in on the fun, too, helping up kids who fall and encouraging them to keep going. “You’re getting a lot better — good job!” Santa said, while also giving tips, such as to look ahead rather than down at their skates. Lisa Bartley, 38, has come to SouthGlenn’s “The Cube” ice rink for years.
It’s located just a short walk away from an indoor spot where Santa sits for photos with kids. “We go see Santa and then come here,” Bartley said. “It’s just a real nice setup — it’s perfect for kids.” The rink opened this season in late November and remains open through February, on Wednesday through Sunday. It opens at 4 p.m. on the weekdays and noon on weekends. For more information about closing hours and ticket prices, visit https:// tinyurl.com/uwvu6d8 or call 303-5397141. The Streets at SouthGlenn is located at East Arapahoe Road and South University Boulevard in Centennial.

What started as a groundswell of concern over redevelopment plans for Centennial’s flagship shopping development has now evolved into a potential petition effort to steer the vision in a different direction. “We are not opposed to the redevelopment, but we don’t want the current flavor being offered,” Ron Phelps, leader of Neighbors for the Streets@ SouthGlenn, wrote in a newsletter to that Phelps group. “It simply does not fit our suburban neighborhood area.” Phelps and at least hundreds of other area residents take issue with proposed changes at The Streets at SouthGlenn outdoor mall, where a recently closed Sears and a Macy’s that is expected to close in coming years are clearing the way for new plans.
