The Mountain Area Land Trust recently celebrated the preservation of 18 acres along the I-70 corridor with several other organizations and neighboring landowners. Floyd Hill Meadow, located in front of Clear Creek High School, is now protected by a conserva-
tion easement that ensures it will never be developed. Albert Frei & Sons construction suppliers donated the land to MALT in 2023. MALT, which works to conserve land in a six-county area of Colorado, launched a capital campaign to make the 18 acres a conservation easement. “The residents of Floyd Hill Meadow have been fighting
for years to protect that space,” MALT communications director Sarah Gumina said. “A lot of people who helped donate to that cause came out for the celebration.” That included representatives of Clear Creek County’s Save Open Lands, Vistas and the Environment and Colorado Open Lands — organizations similarly dedicated to
protecting the environment who helped with the Floyd Hill Meadow effort. Students from Clear Creek High School also came out for the day to help clean up the property. Floyd Hill Meadow is located across I-70 and south of Floyd Hill Open Space, a popular hiking and mountain biking area MALT also helped to preserve.

Construction of Conifer’s new library is expected to begin in May, with an anticipated August or September completion. The community’s freestanding library will be at the Conifer Town Center, in a 5,540-squarefoot, ground-level space near the Venue Theatre. For nearly three decades, the library has been housed at Conifer High School, where the facility is shared with students and staff, and access is limited to nonschool hours. Demolition of the interior got underway in late March, with crews removing interior walls to clear the way for the library’s construction. The library got its building permit on April 22, said Jefferson County Public Library communications director Elise Penington. “If all remains on track (once construction begins), we hope to open in September,” she said. The JCPL board approved the library’s design in late February, which aims to match its mountain community setting. “We’re trying to make the library feel warm and natural, not
