A NOTE FROM THE DIRECTOR

When listening to Alanis Morissette’s iconic masterpiece, Jagged Little Pill, I found myself drawn to its raw, electric spirit. Morissette’s groundbreaking album is honest, unflinching, and deeply personal. Its voice continues to resonate across generations, capturing feelings that are difficult to articulate and reminding us of the power of truth told without apology.

This musical lives at the crossroads between the deeply personal and the explosively public, and our goal has been to create a theatrical language that could hold both. The world of this production is intentionally spare, built as much from absence as from presence. Negative space becomes a canvas for the characters’ inner lives, allowing their emotional journeys to resonate with clarity and force. Within that world, we’ve created a kind of concert environment where the music isn’t just performed but released. Songs feel like eruptions, moments when words aren’t enough and something more primal takes over. Microphones become tools for confession, confrontation, and catharsis, where stepping up to a mic is an act of choice - the choice to be seen or, sometimes, to lose control.

Ultimately, this production seeks to find the poetry inside the pulse. It is a Jagged Little Pill that embraces the messiness of being human, just as Alanis did. As you watch this performance, I hope you let yourself feel the music as much as you hear and see it. Maybe it brings you back to your own connection to Jagged Little Pill, or maybe you experience these songs in a completely new way. Either way, I hope it offers the chance to revisit something deeply familiar and to discover it anew.

Thank you for being here and enjoy the show.

The Fine Arts Center Theatre Company is reimagining itself—boldly, joyfully, and with you in mind.

New venues are opening new possibilities. The redevelopment of the JiGaSa and Music Room spaces allows us to match the right story to the right setting—intimate productions like Grounded finding their power in closer quarters, while Irving Berlin’s White Christmas fills a grander stage. Different spaces invite different dreams.

At the heart of this reimagining is theatre’s most essential gift: empathy. Theatre gives us permission to come together, to share experiences unavailable in any other art form, and to feel each other’s humanity. From fighter pilots to 9/11, from online pressures to finding love, the stories this season remind us who we are to one another.

At a moment when our world so deeply needs connection, celebrating community couldn’t be more vital.

As we already dream toward the 2027–28 season, we invite you to dream with us. Stay curious. Stay engaged. The best is ahead.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Colorado College occupies the ancestral homelands and traditional territory of the Ute People, as well as Apache, Arapahoe, Cheyenne, Comanche, Kiowa, and Pawnee Nations. All were forcibly removed to reservations in Southwest Colorado, Utah, and Oklahoma. We affirm that early United States national policy was designed to breakdown Indigenous communities, destroy cultural identities, and outlaw traditional religious practices to clear a path for non-Indigenous settlement. Despite that, Indigenous Peoples are still here today, resilient, thriving, and vibrant citizens or descendants of 574 US federallyrecognized sovereign tribal nations plus those from north and south of the US borders and beyond. We encourage all people to learn the names and the complex histories of original people of the land you are on and continuously seek ways to act in solidarity with them today and always.
