The Foundation Turns 50!
I
n 1972, the Dallas Cowboys won the Super Bowl, Maya Angelou won the Pulitzer Prize, and Richard Nixon became the first US President to visit the People’s Republic of China. It is also the year a group of ACD leaders recognized the need for a funding organization to take the College’s mission even further and created the ACD Foundation. The ACDF turns 50 this year, and the College is looking forward to celebrating this special milestone.

Although the financial contributions make the work possible, sustaining the mission is the work itself. Without volunteer members willing to roll up their sleeves and do the work, we would not have the abundance of tangible improvements to dentistry that we have created, shared, and enjoyed for over 100 years. A highlight of the 2022 Annual Meeting will be the signing of the ACD/AADEJ affiliation agreement. Slated for Wednesday, October 12 at 5:30 PM, at the beginning of the Meet & Greet reception, this will signify the official start of the AADEJ’s status as a nongeographic Section of the College.

The American Association of Dental Editors and Journalists (AADEJ) was chartered in 1931 as a result of findings of the ACD’s Commission on Journalism. The Commission sought an ongoing effort to, “promote the ideals of non-proprietary journalism in dentistry.” The organization is committed to the establishment and encouragement of responsible editorial policy. All Fellows of the ACD are invited to add the AADEJ as their second Section. (continued on page 3)
