CBCC 2020 Annual Report

INTRODUCTION

We, the Canterbury Bankstown Chamber of Commerce (CBCC) is the fastest-growing Chamber in NSW and the only Chamber to have a dedicated staffing resource. We share the knowledge. Our guiding mantra is to empower, connect, and build not only business but friendships. We are strengthened by the diversity in our community, as we involve everyone who conducts commerce or trade. We are a Commerce Chamber - building better outcomes for our members and our community. Business success is more achievable when mentorship, education, and networking is available. When we share the knowledge our seasoned members help other members with business leadership and mentorship, focusing our efforts on facilitating business educational workshops through partnership and building professional networks. The CBCC helps its members build better reputations through connection to our community, the promotion of doing good things, and being community-minded. 2019 ended with great success. Standing united, we all strove to build a vibrant and flourishing community through championing business leadership. We were proud to be the platform for the united voice of our business community to realise our vision of building Canterbury-Bankstown into the premier destination to live, work, study and visit. However, 2020 truly tested the strength of our community. COVID-19 struck not only as a global health and economic crisis, but it hit our nation and local business community hard. We had to help our members find the light, and create new opportunities, support mental health issues, get good panelled advice to the public, and empower our member to stay resilient and truly 'make it happen'. Each week brought fresh news to the table that changed how we conducted business. We make a point to employ local businesses and venues in the CanterburyBankstown area, and every month the CBCC reinvested all event sponsorship into highlighting and supporting our local business community. Sponsors of CBCC events know that they're not only spreading their name to our sold-out events, Ticket sales went from $6,000 to $8,000, as our events they're also boosting our local economy.

CBCC 2020 Annual Report

Canterbury Bankstown is the gateway to the west and has massive opportunities for growth. According to .id the number of registered businesses grew from 36,619 in 2019 to 37,560 in 2020 with construction being the major industry. Similarly, the CBCC increased gross profit from 130,215 to 184,735 from 2019 to 2020, with a 28% increase in membership fees 97,000 to 125,000. We are placed in an area with massive potential for entrepreneurial growth. For our community footprint this year, we managed to gain and reinvest $37,000 into the local community through sponsorship, and $120,000 through reinvesting event funding. We also help fundraising initiatives for local Charities and not-forprofits, such as raising $5,000 for Bass Hill High School Breakfast Club. Business leadership is turning up, and giving your members what they need to do well. We turned up, and then we stepped up, while other chambers and organisations hibernated. This is where we drove forward as an example that with determination, dedication and innovation, transformation is possible. Pivoting into digital, we continued to facilitate strong communication and maximised local business exposure, working closely with Council, State and Federal representatives, key partners and stakeholders to continue proving that together, we are unstoppable.

MESSAGE FROM OUR CEO When we look back upon the latter half of 2019 and the flourishing success of the year, it's hard to imagine just how quickly the market, economy, business, life, and work changed in a matter of months. COVID-19 will continue to haunt the world for a long time, but it didn't only leave scars to recover from. Adversity unearths stories of resilience, strength, determination and adaptation. When everyone took a step back, the CBCC took a step forward. It is when trouble hits our community that advocacy is needed most. Pivoting into
