Ahhhhhh summer! Can’t wait til it comes - well here it is. Whether you enjoy the beach, lake, river or mountains it is all about catching some rays and enjoying all of the greenery now in full effect. The ancient Chinese participated in ceremonies to honor the earth, feminity, and the force known as yin. We think back to the meaning of summer, when school was let out and we were….free! Those couple of months where you could break from the everyday ritual of school and try something new for yourself. You make the rules, you make the schedule, and the world becomes a whole lot bigger and more interesting. Try something new this summer, something fun and different…. and while you are doing it, why not blast some Banaranama; “Hot summer streets and the pavements are burning / I sit around / Trying to smile but the air is so heavy and dry / Stange voices are sayin’ (what did they say?) / Things I can’t understand / It’s too close for comfort, this heat has got right out of hand…..It’s a cruel, cruel summer….” In the coming months, Stonefielders can look forward to Summer Orientations. We can’t thank Princeton enough for kicking us off this season by hosting their very own field day. We hope everybody who attended had as much fun as we did!

princeton orientation recap For the second consecutive year, the Princeton office was able to entice a stranger to join us all in the office for ice cold margs by advertising it on the sidewalk outside. No wonder these strangers have come back two years in a row, Gillian Castaldo blended together what may have been the best spicy marg we’ve ever tasted. Once the last of the Rutherford crew rolled up in their converted survey van turned party bus, it was time for the games to begin. Stonefielders outfitted in green, pink, and yellow sweatbands took over Community Park with alcohol in their blood and determination in their hearts. Which team would come out on top? The first event; kickball. Although the green team had somebody sporting baseball cleats, they were still no match for the yellow team. As a reward for winning, the yellow team got to sit in the shade while the green team was back at it in the 90+ degree sun to play the pink team. Pink was just.. not very good at kickball to put it nicely. The skill that they lacked in kickball though - they made up for in volleyball. All of the ops girls the other big guys. We’re pretty sure we actually saw one of them shed a tear after back to back L’s. It was all fun and games until somebody brought out the tug-of-war rope. As soon as that rope appeared, kickball and volleyball were over. Nevertheless, it was the battle of the ages and we hope to see these two titans clash again someday in another event. Perhaps an arm wrestle? Once we all had a nice set of blisters on our hands from the rope, it was time to pack up and head over to Contes for some pizza. They may have the longest bar in Princeton, but even that was no match for all 45+ Stonefielders who completely took the place over. Now, according to Dave Portnoy over at Barstool Sports, this pizza was an 8.9 out of 10. We’re unsure what the Stonefield consensus was on a final score, but we can all agree that the pizza really hit the spot after a long day of blood, sweat, and tears. A MASSIVE thank you to all of the Princeton office for being the best hosts. We look forward to seeing you all again next year. Do we hear a Camp Princeton Year 2?

teams We are busy….really, really busy. And we know how hard that can be some days, even some weeks, or let’s face it months that go by in a blur. And through that work we are building something together. Something that probably doesn’t seem like it is making a difference, but it’s through our collective efforts that we are changing the game of engineering and design completely. “Great businesses seem to possess an intuitive understanding that the only way to reach something higher is to focus their attention on the multitude of seemingly insignificant, unimportant, and boring things that make up every business.” Our focus and commitment to the task at hand is what has and will drive us forward. To drive something, anything forward we need to create unified motion. Have you ever thought about how many things must come together and operate in unison to create the motion of a beautiful vehicle? So many parts contributing to one purpose – motion – that ultimately transports us to a different place.

There is no more complete symbol of motion than the wheel. The Buddhist’s speak of something called the Wheel of Life – a symbolic representation of the cycle of existence. These beautifully detailed paintings seem so hard to interpret and yet when we look at them, it’s like we know exactly what they mean. The various phases our lives, the feelings we have, the experiences, all captured in the wheel. And the big, badass, wild-looking spirit that holds the wheel – that’s Yama, the god of change. No matter what we set out to do, the world around seems to change. And boy does that make things hard sometimes. After the last 2 years and now with everything happening of late, this chaotic looking wheel of life is pretty damn accurate. And this is the nature of all of our lives, there is only one constant – there is no constant, there is only change. Our success or failure as Team Stonefield will come through our ability to adapt to constant change and to look upon it with acceptance and play. Embrace it. All Stonefield teams, embracing change, moving as one….what a beautiful vehicle to experience this life.
