Volunteer eVents recap
On a cool and crisp Saturday morning, a small group of Stonefielder’s met up at Mercer County Park to volunteer their time at the Special Olympics of New Jersey: Fall Games. They received instruction, put on their shirts, and made their way to the soccer fields where they worked as announcers, scorekeepers, and line judges. They spent most of the day attempting to keep up with the fast-paced athletes and trying to ensure the games moved as smoothly as possible. In the meantime, the athletes fought for the gold in their respective divisions. The atmosphere there that day was incredible. The outpouring of support from the parents, staff, and volunteers alike made the event feel like the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics. The competitors were excited to play, and we were even more excited to watch. We
had the opportunity to watch some incredibly intense games you just had to be there for. From some spectacular saves to some no look goals, it was difficult to keep our eyes off the game for even a moment, despite the hilarious jokes the goalies were cracking while the ball was on the other side of the field. It was a long but rewarding day that Saturday and volunteering at the Special Olympics reminded us that no matter the obstacles or difficulties life throws our way, as long as we give our best effort and enjoy the ride we, will always succeed no matter the result. As the season begins to change again, we look forward to the opportunity to volunteer again. This Winter, the Special Olympics will be hosting basketball games where we have another chance to get in on the action.
On a beautiful Fall Saturday morning in September, a group of Stonefielders from the New York and Rutherford offices joined together with the Fort Tryon Park Trust to help clean up a substantial portion of their park in upper Manhattan. Stonefielders cleared debris, weeds, and overgrowth to make way for new trees to be planted and for new improvements to be made. The park caretaker was extremely pleased with how much of an impact our volunteers made that Saturday.
As a reward for a job well done, we treated ourselves to one, or maybe three, “Basic Bitch Brews” (espresso martinis), at a local spot in Washington Heights. Not only was this event a fun bonding experience, but it served a genuine purpose. Stonefield strives to facilitate improvements in the very same communities we work and live in through both volunteer and engineer work. Please join us for various other volunteering opportunities in the future – we hope to see many of you there!
The Special Olympics of New Jersey: Fall Games took place on October 22nd. Members of our Princeton and New York offices were there to lend a hand.
The Fort Tyron Park cleanup event took place on September 24th. Members of our Rutherford and New York offices made a big impact on the park that day.
princeton Golf outinG
On August 26th, the Princeton Office hosted a golf outing for their final respective orientation of the year. Members of the Princeton, Rutherford, New York, and Salem offices met up at Colts Neck Golf Course for a 10 am tee time. Teams were split up and the games began. Despite the intense competitive spirits, everybody came together when they found the metal horse statue on the back 9. Unfortunately for everybody who sat up on that trusty steed, the metal was incredibly hot and was handing out first degree burns like the cart girl was handing out hot dogs. Thankfully for everyone, the blistering heat was soothed with ice cold beers, bar food, and most importantly, cigars. The day was a huge success and winner or loser, everyone was able to set their differences aside over some phenomenal ‘Pancho’ tacos. Fortunately, the group was not rowdy enough to get banned from future events, so next year must include more debauchery, more drinking, and more prizes.
