Since Project Stonefield on March 13, 2020 this has been an interesting and somewhat fascinating 7 months of living and working. We spoke about embracing this time with a spirit of experimentation, creativity and open-mindedness. Certainly easier said than done. We have accomplished so much in these past months. And here we are, living in the present, to continue to experiment, create, and open to the ever-changing work and teaming environment. This is our first issue and we committed ourselves to creating this newsletter as a way to communicate in a different way than we have in the past. Something both tangible and virtual. Analog and modern. A way for us to share in thoughts, philosophy, style, activities and our work.
We love our music, that has always been the case. Monthly mixtapes remind us (well some of us) of recording different artists and musicians on cassette tapes, burning CDs with a variety of music to create a connection with someone, or becoming an impromptu DJ for a moment in a dorm room or at a party. The shared music experience simultaneously unifies our team internally by placing us on the same wavelength, in the same syncopated beat pattern. The music we listen to is a good representation of our fresh, trail-blazing nature. The mixtape releases began with a concept proposed by Stonefield’s branding design team, Sierra, and were set in place as a standard at the start of September, 2020. The thematic sound of Stonefield Mixtape 001 was loose, leisurely, and vibrant; meant for listeners to feel relaxed in their transition out of summer and into autumn. It features Frank Ocean, Tame Impala, The Knocks, Chromeo, Oliver Nelson, and many other artists. Check it out if you’re looking for an hour of jams. The entire month of October is always spooky in nature. To run parallel with this, Stonefield Mixtape 002 maintains the leisurely feeling of Mixtape 001, but with an eerie twist. Rather than putting traditional Halloween songs on repeat for an entire month, we offer listeners a refreshing halloweenmusic-listening experience. Featuring songs with scary titles/ sounds from the likes of Travis Scott, The Weeknd, Justice, and Kendrick Lamar to name a few. Octobers’ mixtape takes listeners deep into the night with sounds of darkness, brightly lit through dancey, electronic sections as if they were the face carved into a jack-o-lantern. To better illustrate this sound, envision yourself on a dimly lit dancefloor; much like the one pictured on the mixtape cover. Listen for yourself, and let the feeling takeover this Halloween season. Followers of the sound of Stonefield can look forward to months filled with music of the 70’s, 80’s, 90’s, and the eventual country music mixtape (we promise to make it enjoyable for everybody although some people feel that is impossible). Enjoy each monthly installment, and feel free to share the playlists with your friends and families. Enjoy the dance.
