A Message from the President Dear Friends, It is my pleasure to welcome you to the 2023–24 season at Colburn. This year we have many exciting reasons to celebrate, with milestone anniversaries for the School and a bright future on the horizon. This season marks the 25th anniversary of Zipper Hall, which has become a favorite destination for performers and audiences thanks to its superb acoustics and intimate atmosphere. Zipper Hall is part of Colburn’s Grand Avenue building, which serves as a vibrant, longstanding anchor of the cultural corridor in Downtown Los Angeles. Soon, Colburn will open new exceptional performance spaces in the heart of LA. A Frank Gehry-designed building adjacent to our current campus will include a 1,000-seat concert hall named for Terri and Jerry Kohl, dance studios, and a studio theater. This building will become a vibrant, welcoming beacon for students, performing artists, and audiences. The 2023–24 season also marks the 20th anniversary of the Conservatory of Music, which was founded with an unyielding goal: to train the very highest level of classical performers for careers in music. Our faculty played a vital role in the creation of this unit of the School, laying the groundwork for the Conservatory to become a destination for exceptionally talented young musicians. We also celebrate the Community School of Performing Arts, which has helped students achieve their full potential for over 70 years, the Music Academy, which has developed an exceptional track record of sending students to top conservatories and schools, and the Trudl Zipper Dance Institute, which this year welcomes internationally renowned dance educator, former New York City Ballet principal, and former Director of Boston Ballet School Margaret Tracey as Dean. Of course, none of this would be possible without the incredible generosity of our donor community. I extend my deepest appreciation for their vital support which has nurtured Colburn throughout its history and has made our bright future possible. Thank you for being a part of today’s performance and be sure to join us again soon. Sincerely,
Sel Kardan President and Chief Executive Officer
