OUTDOOR LEARNING AT COKETHORPE PREP SCHOOL At Cokethorpe Prep School, we believe that education should extend far beyond the classroom. Water, Land, Sky is our exciting, structured outdoor learning programme, designed to help children grow in confidence, curiosity, and capability as they progress from Year 3 through to Year 6. Built around our beautiful 150-acre parkland and our boathouse on the River Thames, the programme makes the most of our exceptional setting to offer a wide range of meaningful experiences.

What we do Pupils from Years 3 to 6 participate in two mornings per term across the year with the dedicated Outdoor Education team developing these characteristics through a defined activities programme.
NAVIGATE - RISK COMPETENCE Year 3 receive an introduction to water safety, river hazards and canoeing at the Boathouse. CHALLENGE - CONFIDENCE & RESILIENCE Year 4 abseil from the top of the climbing tower, stepping beyond their comfort zone. DISCOVER - ENVIRONMENTAL STEWARDSHIP Year 6 identify, plan and deliver a project that leaves a lasting positive impact on the local environment. CREATE - RESPONSIBILITY Year 5 plan, prepare and cook a meal outdoors through the Bushcraft Kitchen Challenge. FOCUS - SELF-CONTROL Year 3 develop concentration, discipline and decision making through archery challenges. LEAD - TEAMWORK & LEADERSHIP Year 6 take part in the Water, Land, Sky Showcase Challenge, leading and supporting others on a team expedition.
How we do it Pupils participate in two mornings per term across the year with the dedicated Outdoor Education team. The programme does not exist in isolation. Its six characteristics are woven throughout the wider Prep curriculum and school life, helping pupils make connections from their outdoor experiences. Whether exploring the resilience of a character in English, environmental stewardship in Geography, or leadership through the school council, Water, Land, Sky helps bring learning to life and supports pupils in making meaningful real-world connections.
The Water, Land, Sky Legacy By Year 6, pupils are expected not only to take part but to lead. They plan routes, support teammates, contribute to environmental projects, take responsibility for safety and demonstrate the judgement and character developed throughout their Water, Land, Sky journey. The final showcase challenge celebrates this progression and marks the culmination of years of growth and development.
