Prince Park gets new restrooms  City to install unisex bathrooms, drinking fountains By Samantha Nelson

OCEANSIDE — After months of anticipation, Prince Memorial Skatepark is about to get new solar-powered restrooms and drinking fountains. The Oceanside City Council first approved a purchase order with Green Flush Restrooms in September 2021 to replace the exist-

ing restroom at the park after receiving multiple public requests. The council on Aug. 24 approved a public works agreement with San Diego-based A.B. Hashmi for $245,400 to pay for the long-awaited improvements to Prince Park. Currently, the park has no running water, and the new restroom will replace the park’s current single-pit toilet. The new restroom will include two unisex bathrooms, automated locking doors for enhanced security,

running water and drinking fountains. Kymberly Corbin, the city’s associate engineer and project manager, said the new restrooms are completely solar-powered with waterless urinals, a larger vault and increased pumping to prevent overfilling. The new restroom, sitting in a Washington state facility, will be ready for installation by October, with a two-week service disruption to prepare for installation. DEL MAR — The Winston School will be allowed to move forward with all claims outlined in their lawsuit against the city of Del Mar when the case goes to trial next year, a judge ruled earlier this month. RANCHO The Winston School’s SFNEWS lawsuit — which alleges the city terminated the school’s lease at the Shores Park property in bad faith in 2021 — includes six causes of action for declaratory relief related to their obligations under the 55-year lease with the city. The city of Del Mar requested for these causes of action to be overruled, arguing that declaratory relief, which provides a statement of a parties’ rights from the court, “is not the not the proper vehicle to determine elements of contract questions” and that a breach of contract claim would be more fitting. San Diego County Superior Court Judge Kenneth Medel agreed with the city in earlier hearings, tentatively granting their motion back in March and forcing the school to amend their complaint to include a breach of contract claim. The city filed another motion to dismiss in May, but the judge allowed Winston School to bring forward TURN TO WINSTON ON 7
