Ex-supervisor apologizes but denies crimes

REGION — Supervisor Nathan Fletcher has officially stepped down from the San Diego County Board of Supervisors. In his first public statement in weeks, Fletcher announced his resignation on May 15 from his District 4 seat on the board and addressed the allegations by former San Diego Metropolitan Transit FLETCHER System employee Grecia Figeroua. “I own, unequivocally, the responsibility for making the mistake of engaging in consensual interactions with someone outside of my marriage,” he said in a statement to constituents Monday. “And while I strenuously deny the allegations you have no doubt heard levied against me, I apologize for letting down so many people important to me — my family, staff, constituents, supporters, and friends. “I failed to live up to the standards I expect of myself, and those which are rightly demanded of our elected officials,” Fletcher said. ENCINITAS — San Dieguito Union High School District officials confirmed Wednesday the district’s new superintendent will be Anne Staffieri, current superintendent of the Escondido Union High School District. Staffieri’s selection ends a long and highly-anticipated superintendent search in San Dieguito, pending final approval by the board at their May 17 meeting.
