MYTH: “There’s plenty of time to shop.”

Many brides underestimate how long it takes to place a gown order. It can take 6-8 months for a wedding gown order to be fulfilled. And, you will still want some time factored in for any alterations! If you are able to, dress shopping should begin about 8-12 months ahead of the wedding date.
Don’t stress if your timeline is quicker than that! Most bridal salons offer discounted sample gowns that can be purchased off the rack and can be taken home the same day. Your consultant may also be able to check in with designers to see what options could ship sooner for you!
Remember to allow yourself enough time to find accessories and place orders for those as well! No matter your timeline, your bridal consultants are here to help!
MYTH: “ I should stick to a specific silhouette based on my body type.”

We’ve all seen illustrations of bridal silhouettes paired with body shapes. And while it’s true that each silhouette impacts your frame in different ways, you can wear whatever the heck you want. Really. As long as you feel comfortable and confident, you can pull off any look, style, or shape that you desire! Realistically, I know that we are each intune with our own insecurities. So maybe that means you’re looking for a dress with sleeves, and that’s perfectly okay. But I’m here to tell you that you don’t need sleeves, you don’t need a specific neckline. What you DO need is a dress that makes you smile, details you can’t live without, and the confidence that you found the right look for YOU! All this to say, unlearn everything you’ve absorbed regarding what you are “supposed to wear,” and enjoy the journey of discovering what you are excited to wear. You got this! SPRING 2024 | 43

MYTH: “My dress needs to fit the venue.”

While it is important to consider your venue when dress shopping, it is not a deal-breaker. I have seen ballgowns glide gracefully down a sandy beach aisle, cathedral veils in a backyard wedding, and gowns with slits in the most formal of venues! Logistically, yes, consider your venue and what attire you will feel most comfortable navigating on your big day. But when it comes down to it, your bridal gown is an expression of your personality and your love for your fiance, and ideally, nothing should come in the way of you making that declaration through fashion!

...Not necessarily. But if crying isn’t always the indicator, then how do you know when to say “Yes!” to the dress? That is the million dollar question. While picking your wedding dress can be an extremely difficult decision, there are several indicators that the dress may be the one. HERE ARE SOME SIGNS TO LOOK FOR: •
You don’t want to take the dress off!

You can’t stop looking at yourself in the mirror while you’re in it

You feel comfortable and confident

You can imagine yourself walking down the aisle or dancing the night away in it

You get excited thinking about seeing the dress in your precious wedding photos for years to come Television shows lead us to believe that the “Yes!” moment is an eruption of emotion- tears, cheers, you name it. Sometimes, that is how the moment is for brides. Typically, the way a bride declares her “Yes” is a reflection of her personality. A lot of brides announce that they’ve found their gown by a confident “this is the one” or a smiling “yep, I love it.” Refrain from comparing your ‘yes’ moment to the experiences of others. Your decision is as unique as you are!

Ashley & Andre’ We met briefly in 2013 at a friends BBQ. In 2015, he ended up getting stationed at the same command as me, and we worked in the same shop. I didn’t realize who he was until our friend reminded me that we had met years before. In August 2015, we went on a detachment to Key West, Florida for two weeks. Since it was his birthday, we all decided to go out and celebrate with him. After, we exchanged numbers and began to converse daily. He was very big on detailing his car and for our first date he invited me to the car wash so he could detail my car as well. I never would have thought that something so simple as washing our cars together would allow us to connect on a different level. Within one month, we were officially in a relationship. Because we worked together, we kept our
relationship private for almost two years! When it was time for me to transfer, we no longer had to hide our love from the world! However, we were still trying to figure out our own personal lives, so we were on and off until separating for some time. In 2019, not realizing that we worked near each other again, we ran into each other. Though we experienced some issues in our previous relationship, we were able to forgive each other and move on as “JUST FRIENDS”. Before we knew it, those feelings came rushing back and we started to fall for each other again. In 2022, we were both selected for orders to Florida and our love and bond grew stronger everyday. August 28, 2022, we attended a family vacation to Disney with his family, and he proposed in front of everyone. We decided to have our wedding on a six day cruise to the Bahamas with over 60 of our family and friends. It was more cost effective and allowed for us to do the wedding and honeymoon all in one. The cruise line selected our date to get married and coincidentally, it was August 28, 2023. Exactly one year from the day we got engaged! The best part about our wedding was watching our family and friends blend and build relationships over the days. The Carnival Magic crew really did a great job with putting our wedding together! Everything from the ceremony to the reception to the photography/ videography was amazing! Our wedding was one that everyone will remember!

Jody & Mike September of 2017, I found myself going on my first date in 22 years. I had just turned 40 and become a widow earlier in the year. Walking up to the front of The Sandshaker Lounge on Pensacola Beach to meet Mike, who I’d known through work, seemed surreal. The night was balmy. The breeze was lightly lifting the hem of my dress that showed more skin than I’d realized. I’d tried it on when my sister Priscilla had taken me out earlier that month to buy ‘dating clothes’. The Shaker was packed, and the crowd was lively, as the Drake White show was well underway. Mike had invited me to join him and another couple to see the show the country singer was putting on, and I’d nervously accepted the invitation. I was old enough to know that it could be a big mistake to date someone who I had to regularly interact with through work, but I’d made
a decision and was determined to stick to it! Mike was such a nice guy, and I couldn’t imagine him doing anything to make me uncomfortable if things didn’t work out. So, there I was, noise blaring and ridiculously self-conscious for a woman my age. I wasn’t about to walk into the bar by myself, so I called him when I was at the door. He made it out there to me within what seemed like a heartbeat. He was a gentleman from the word “go”. Smiling broadly with his hand lightly pressed to the small of my back, he escorted me to where our group of four would watch the show from the upper deck. Mike pulled out the barstool for me, got me situated, and fought the crowd anytime I needed anything; a bushwacker, a water, a soda, whatever - he was on it. His friends, Fred and Chanda, had been married for about 25 years and couldn’t have been more kind and welcoming. The double date ended up being a wonderful success. The show was great, Mike continued to be a gentleman, and more dates were definitely on the horizon. Mike had a story of his own. He’d been married a couple of times, the last one for more than 15 years, and he’d decided that marriage wasn’t a thing he really needed to do again. He had moved back to his hometown of Jay, Florida, and reconnected with lifelong friends who welcomed him back with open arms, happy to have their friend back around. Miller Lites, cookouts, and stories of their athletic successes were the norm. Mike had started for the Royals basketball team back in the day and his buddies were former Royals football stars. Life was simple. But man, was that Drake White show night a change of pace! There have been so many concerts since then… Jason Aldean, Dierks Bentley, Chris Stapleton, Cody Johnson (three times), Luke Combs three times (once at The Sandshaker), Jamie Johnson twice,
George Strait, Alan Jackson, and the list goes on and on. Music is a special part of the love we share, and that shared passion was on display when we got married on June 24th, 2023 at Pier Suite on Pensacola Beach in front of so many family members and friends (just across the street from The Shaker where that first date had gone so well). You can bet Fred and Chanda were there, cheering loudly for their friends who’d found love again in one another. We walked up to the altar to the Cody Johnson song, “On My Way To You”. Can you guess what our first dance was to? If you said, Drake White, you definitely got it right… “Making Me Look Good Again” will always be our song. Our friends and family aren’t all fans of dancing in public, but when we asked them to join us on the dance floor to Megan Trainor and John Legend’s “Like I’m Gonna Lose You”, you can bet that all the couples joined happily! There were a few misty eyes in the group

Sia & Scotty We met two years prior to getting married on Bumble when my husband was 8000 miles away and deployed to Jordan. We chose to elope in Vegas after months of planning a huge barn wedding. We decided to simply focus on us and our children instead of the world, so we chose a Vegas wedding with Elvis marrying us at the world famous Little White Wedding Chapel where JLO and others got married. My Stella York dress was the perfect addition and I remember seeing it on the mannequin and falling in love once I tried it on. I carried it all throughout the airports and flight which made me even more excited. My best friend was a local Vegas wedding photographerMeg Gassler Photography-and she was our witness along with my two kids who both walked me down the aisle. Scotty got down on one knee and gave

Cassidy & Michael We met in college through my cousins, who were Michael’s hometown best friends. At the triplet cousin’s 21st birthday party, we were first introduced. We immediately connected when we met and started dating shortly after. Fun fact: our first kiss was at midnight on New Years. Over the course of our relationship, we spent over 2 years long distance before moving to Pensacola, FL. After a Christmas season proposal in Philadelphia, we got married in September of 2023 in Villanova, PA at my home parish. Caitlyn & Bobby We met through mutual friends in the beginning of 2019. I was a student at UWF while Bobby was finishing Gunship training in the Air Force. Our relationship started with going on many adventures which included traveling to Mobile, New Orleans, and the beach. We also enjoyed biking and watching crime documentaries. Bobby proposed on October 9th, 2021 while we were visiting his family in Texas. I soon started planning our wedding for 2023 and wanted to honor my grandfather by getting married on his birthday, May 6th. As life would have it, Bobby was on the list to be stationed at a new base, so Bobby and I decided we wanted to be officially married before we had to move. Surrounded by my immediate family, we were officially married on May 6, 2022 on the Blackwater River in Milton, Florida. Then, a month and a half later, Bobby was diagnosed with a rare cancer. While our first year of marriage was full of heartbreak and triumphs related to Bobby’s cancer, we grew stronger as a couple. We decided to use the wedding on May 6, 2023, to celebrate our one-year anniversary with friends and family. Saige & Patrick Our first time meeting was a long time coming. Despite both growing up a few hours from each other in Virginia, going to all the same events and attractions, and attending the same college, it wasn’t until the end of our junior year at the Naval Academy when we finally met. We met, of course, outside of a bar in downtown Annapolis just before summer break started. The last few days of the school year were filled with us finding excuses to spend time together (ask about our brunch date sometime) and wonder what was going on. Fast forward to the start of the next school year, after a summer of texting and staying in touch every day. I couldn’t stop thinking about her and asked her out to dinner one night…which of course she rejected. I was crushed, but realized that she had become such an important part of my life that
I couldn’t just move on. Despite the initial rejection, we spent the next couple of months spending a lot of time together, going to Ring Dance, spending Halloween together in Baltimore, and always seeming to find each other out in town. She must’ve realized there was no avoiding me, so she finally asked me out on a date, and the rest is history. Once we started dating, we were attached at the hip and spent every second together. Dating Saige made me the happiest person I had ever been, and I decided very early on in the relationship that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. Before spending Christmas with her family, we rented a cabin in southern VA to have a few days together. I’d love to pretend me proposing was a surprise, but she definitely knew it was coming. I carried the ring with me that whole trip, waiting for the right moment to pop the question. One night, the sunset over the mountains near our cabin looked amazing, and she set up her phone to take a photo of us. Right when the photo was being taken, I got down on one knee. I can’t imagine my life without Saige in it. I know our lives will continue to be filled with laughter, love, and way too much pizza, and I can’t wait to find out what else our life together has in store. - Patrick
