Chumash descendent Julie Tumamait-Stenslie stands at Mishopshno Meadow on the Carpinteria Bluffs just after 7 a.m. on Sunday, March 24; Tumamait-Stenslie, and the rest of Carpinteria’s early risers, met on the bluffs for the 26th annual Sunrise Ceremony, organized each year by the Citizens for the Carpinteria Bluffs. Attendees – who are encouraged to bring a poem, story or song to share – welcome spring and receive a blessing from Tumamait-Stenslie.
