Millville council approves annexation of 9 acres By Kerin Magill Staff Reporter The Millville Town Council this week approved annexation of about 9 acres on Club House Road into town limits. The annexation, approved unanimously, involved two parcels — one owned by the developers of the proposed Club House Crossing community
and the other by the Barnett family. The Barnett property is about 2.7 acres, and the Club House Crossing parcel is about 6.7 acres, according to Millville Code & Building Official Eric Evans. Council members also voted unanimously to amend the Town’s zoning map to change the Barnett property to R-1 (residential) and the Club House Crossing property to R-2. The R-2 cat-
egory gives developers more leeway on the types of homes permitted, allowing duplexes, Evans said. Public hearings were held before the votes. There were no written or oral comments from the public, either for or against the annexations or the zoning changes. The council also approved final site plans for Sea Isle Bay Village (formerly FKA West Village B), part of Millville
By the Sea, located on the west side of Route 17 (Roxana Road) at the intersection with Powell Farm Road. Protestors unmoved by ‘First Amendment’ ordinance reboot By Susan Canfora Staff Reporter When the Ocean View Town Council met this month, the council chamber was again filled to standing-room-only capacity with those protesting the Town’s new ordinance Chapter 77, also known as “the First Amendment ordinance.” In its original form, the ordinance established guidelines and a permitting process for assemblies in town parks and on Town-owned property, held under the provisions of the First Amendment. ACLU Delaware subsequently called for its repeal, as did about 17 people gathered at John West Park before the Sept. 9 council meeting. The protestors carried American flags and signs with slogans such as “Free speech 4 all,” “Hands off free speech” and “Our founders knew freedom of speech is meaningless without freedom of assembly.”

Armory and Bayard Roads closing for construction By Laura Walter Staff Reporter People should check their commute before driving across town, as temporary road closures are planned for opposite sides of the 19945 ZIP code. The Delaware Department of Transporta-
tion (DelDOT) has announced road projects on Armory Road (near Dagsboro and Omar) and Bayard Road (near Bayard and Roxana). Motorists should always use caution, watch for detour signs, slow down around flaggers and expect minor delays in the area.
Armory Road detour for one week Armory Road (Route 20) will close between Dukes Road and Omar Road, from Monday morning, Oct. 27, until Monday morning, Nov. 3, to complete a bridge rehabilitation project that
began earlier this year. Most repairs to the 40-plus-yearold bridge occurred from February to May. Now, the final few tasks, include smoothing out the roadway at both approaches, will take place. See ROADS page 5
