ganization claimed were unlawful voting practices allowing corporations and other non-persons to vote in town elections. In a decision dated Tuesday, May 26, Sussex County Superior Court Judge Craig Karsnitz wrote that the ACLU lawsuit, filed Dec. 4, 2025, did

not meet legal parameters in either local or state law regarding elections. “We are a small town, and we believe that a property owner who pays taxes and is subject to our ordinances should have a say in who represents them on our town council,” Fenwick Island Mayor Natalie Magdeburger

said Tuesday. “Many of the property owners that are legal entities are family/marital trusts that were established for estate purposes and hold title to residential

Feeling the fog

By Susan Canfora Staff Reporter The day after two young men — powerwashers preparing for a job in the Selbyville area — rushed across the street to extinguish flames coming from a trailer, the grateful owner of the home described himself as “overwhelmed.” “Oh, my God. Those two men are godsends. I have a bushel of crabs for them. I crab for enjoyment. I’m going to take care of those boys. I’m going to do that for them. My God. That fire was a freak of nature. I don’t know how it happened or why it happened but those two really are godsends,” Ronald Keller, who owns the trailer, told the Coastal Point. On May 21, while Keller — who works from home in Selbyville, near Hudson Road and Route 54 — was in the shower, Dexter Johnson and Chad David, who work for Seaside Pressure Wash in Greenwood, were preparing to work on a home across the street when Johnson saw “a bunch of smoke, even though I already knew there was a burning ban going on.”

Millsboro to have contested election on June 13 By Laura Walter Staff Reporter Three seats on the Millsboro Town Council were up for election this year, but only one will be contested in the 2026 election. Residents in representative District 2 can cast ballots in the

municipal election on Saturday, June 13, from 1 to 7 p.m. at the Millsboro Town Center, located at 322 Wilson Highway. The two candidates running for the District 2 seats are Ronald O’Neal of Pond Alley and Stephen Webster of Madison Street.

Because two incumbents are running unopposed, they will automatically keep their council seats: Gary Mack of Charlotte Boulevard (who was recently appointed to fill a District 3 council vacancy) and Marty Presley of Roanoke Rapids (who won the atlarge/townwide council seat in 2023).

District 2 generally includes the northeast quadrant of the town (northwest of Main Street and north of Route 113), northern Millsboro around Route 20/Hardscrabble Road, and most of the southwest Route 113 See ELECTION page A5
