County council hears about positive impacts of oysters By Susan Canfora Staff Reporter As she asked the Sussex County Council to help fund the Delaware Environmental Coalition, Mimi Perdue asked council members to remember three words that describe its importance: economy, environment and education. “This is a win-win-win project for anyone. There is no downside to this,” she said, reminding the council, at the Tuesday, June 3, meeting, that the University of Delaware is investing — as is the U.S. Congress and Delaware State Legislature — “and we are hoping the county council will see fit to do the same.” She was at the council meeting with Rick Chamberlin, president of the coalition, as well as University of Delaware Professor Ed Hale and Kim Hoey Stevenson, who said she got involved because she believes in the coalition, formed to help communities protect the environment and living shoreline, enhance environmental sustainability and support Delaware’s ocean-centered “blue” economy. Bernat takes on a new challenge in Frankford By Kerin Magill Staff Reporter Heather Bernat’s new job as Frankford’s town clerk is just across the street from her old one, where she was assistant director of the Frankford Public Library. So isn’t surprising that she sees many of the same faces from her new desk in Frankford Town Hall. Bernat, 53, took over the post in April after the retirement of Cheryl Lynch, who held it for nearly 10 years. Originally from Maryland, Bernat grew up in Dover and now lives near Ocean View (although she has a Frankford address).
