South Bethany expects rebuilt ramp for season By Susan Canfora Staff Reporter South Bethany’s beach accessibility ramp for the disabled, removed after storms in October, will be rebuilt, probably next month, and finished in time for the busy summer tourist season. The ramp will be redesigned, due to the narrowness of the beach, and because there are no immediate plans, or
funding, for beach renourishment, officials said this week. “What is there now will be removed and slightly relocated and rebuilt,” South Bethany Mayor Edie Dondero told the town council at their Feb. 13 meeting, adding that she had learned after meeting with the town’s Public Works Department and DNREC experts that DNREC will create the ramp and town employees will rebuild and
pay for new handrails if they are needed, depending on the slope of the resulting ramp. Replying to a question from the council, Dondero said recent storms have not further damaged the beach.
New police cameras approved The town council this week also approved spending $116,474 — paid dur-
ing a five-year period — for new Axon police body cameras and a new police vehicle car camera system, as mandated by Delaware State Code and at the recommendation of Police Chief Jason Lovins. The cost includes installation of new equipment and a server. Lovins said South Bethany has a server now, but See SBTC page A7

Antique appraisals to be offered at Millsboro library By Laura Walter Staff Reporter Ever wonder whether your aunt’s old painting is worth anything? Or that pile of coins you dug out of the garden? The Friends of the Millsboro Library will host an Antique Market
show, where anyone in the community can bring up to three items to be appraised. They can drop in on Saturday, Feb. 21, between 9:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. (The weather date is Feb. 28.) “All types of antique or collectibles, currency and fine art, jewelry, sterling, coins and currency,” said Jane Mahoney,
vice president of the Friends. “Something you could obviously carry in” the building. This isn’t the place to park an antique car, for instance. “Bring your treasures to receive … a verbal appraisal. There’s nothing in writing. And these are appraisals based on the market value at the time,” Ma-
honey added. This really will be a “show,” too. Similar to antiques-focused television shows, there will be a central appraisal area, with a video camera broadcasting the items to a larger screen on-site, “so See ANTIQUES page A3
