Fenwick council to talk ‘home rule’ at meeting By Kerin Magill Staff Reporter The Fenwick Island Town Council this week is preparing to discuss a possible appeal of a move earlier this year by the Delaware state legislature in support of offshore wind farms. In June, the state Senate passed Senate Bill 159, which, in effect, gives the State the power to override an earlier Sussex County denial of approval for an electrical substation that would be connected to proposed wind turbines off Delaware’s coast. The substation permit, which was voted down 4-1 by the Sussex County Council, was needed for a wind turbine project proposed by U.S. Wind. The substation was to be built on property next to the now-shuttered Indian River Power Plant in Dagsboro as the onshore connection point for the wind farm. The Sussex County Council denied approval for the substation, despite the County’s Planning & Zoning Commission recommending its approval. U.S. Wind is now suing the County over the denial. Millsboro to consider development moratorium in January By Laura Walter Staff Reporter Due to state discussions — and potential mandates — on affordable housing, the Millsboro Town Council will weigh a potential moratorium on new development in the town. Some council members already support a pause, while others are simply open to hearing the debate. The public can chime in at a public hearing — part of the regular monthly meeting Monday, Jan. 5, at 7 p.m. If enacted in January, the Millsboro moratorium would be six months long, ending in July.
