Dondero, Shaw competing for mayor By Mike Smith Staff Reporter South Bethany Mayor Pro Tem Tim Shaw has declared his candidacy for mayor and said he was going to run as part of a slate of candidates with town council candidates including current council Treasurer Randy Bartholomew and Bob Shields, newly appointed to a vacant seat and a resiliency committee member. During a visit to the Coastal Point, Shaw said, “Last time, we ran a great slate, with myself, Edie Dondero” — now his opponent for mayor — “and Dick Oliver. I am sure we were all riding the coattails of Dick Oliver at that time.”
Dondero, who is the town council secretary, is also running for South Bethany mayor but previously ran on the Shaw/Oliver slate. “Everyone knew Dick Oliver, so that was a smart election strategy for us,” said Shaw. “We were concerned at that time that folks were just nominating their friends and voting for people based on popularity. That may well be happening again this year, so running as a slate of candidates is one way to create some voter interest.” The town election will be held on May 11 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and voting is at town hall on 402 Evergreen Road.
