Mountaire, volunteers to pack for Thousands By Susan Canfora Staff Reporter About 175 volunteers will pack 8,000 boxes filled with fresh chicken and side dishes — each with enough to feed about four people — at Mountaire Farms’ annual Easter for Thousands on Saturday, March 23. Volunteers will join employees that morning as they place items from

Mountaire’s spring menu in each box, including peas and carrots, mashed potatoes, gravy, macaroni-and-cheese, applesauce, cake or brownie mix, and the chicken. For the annual Thanksgiving for Thousands and Christmas for Thousands events, yams, stuffing mix and cranberry sauce are in each box, but there’s a seasonal change for the Easter boxes. Boxes will be loaded into trucks and

distributed to families in Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and North Carolina. Packing for Easter for Thousands will be done at Mountaire in Selbyville, in the warehouse and parking lot, where tents will be erected, said Zach Evans, who handles public relations, and who said no more volunteers are needed this Easter. “We will start at 8:30 that morning. We will have breakfast sandwiches

there. We’re partnering with Hocker’s deli. They will have breakfast sandwiches for all of the volunteers, and Mountaire chicken will be cooked outside. Everyone will get a boxed lunch,” he said, adding that there will also be vegetarian selections. Musical performances will be by praise and worship performers includSee THOUSANDS page 3

Sosnoski brings history of service to Millville council By Kerin Magill Staff Reporter Deborah Sosnoski, Millville’s newest town council member, is used to putting out fires — and by that we mean real fires, not the issues that often come up for leaders in a small town. Sosnoski was sworn in on Tuesday, March 12, to fill the council seat that became available when council treasurer Peter Michel decided not to seek reelection. Sosnoski retired to Millville three years ago, after a career as a firefighter and emergency medical technician in Anne Arundel County, Md. She and her husband, Michael, purchased their home in Millville by the Sea six years ago and spent the next three years as part-time residents, she said. While Sosnoski said she has never served in town government before, she has served on several committees within See SOSNOSKI page 5

This face-to-face meeting is a reflection of our times. See what we did there? ‘Reflection’ was used as... oh, never mind. It is a cool photo of a blue heron though, isn’t it?

Egg hunts on the horizon as Easter nears By Susan Canfora Staff Reporter Several events are planned to celebrate Easter, from searching for candyfilled eggs, to learning to juggle and having a decorative face-painting.

At Roots Landscaping in Selbyville, babies, toddlers, children — and even adults — are welcome to join in the annual Betty Madara Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 23, at 1:30 p.m. The Easter Bunny will be there, at 36226 Dupont Boulevard in Selbyville, from

noon to 2 p.m., as participants dye eggs, make crafts, play games and look for the golden egg for each age group, to win a basket filled with prizes. “The hunt is rain-or-shine. We’ve even had it in the snow, and we had a really good time,” said Roots owner

Catherine Winkler, who works with her husband, Bill, and their sons Will and Fritz, with help from their youngest son, Zane. “It’s for all ages, and we will divide the participants into groups, from See HUNTS page 2
