Selbyville council cancels Halloween parade By Susan Canfora Staff Reporter In October, a Trunk or Treat event will replace the Selbyville Halloween Parade, as it did last year. At the Monday, June 5, council meeting, the Selbyville Town Council unanimously agreed to cancel the parade again this year. Police Chief Brian Wilson said police officers will be spread thin this fall, with National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day, the

100th anniversary of the Selbyville Volunteer Fire Company and Halloween events. He recommended using those limited police resources to host a Trunk or Treat, “especially as the town grows and because there are so many safety concerns now with parades.” Town Administrator Stacey Long said the Trunk or Treat was successful last year and that in the past few years, there hasn’t been much interest in participating in a parade.

New mixed-use zoning district moves forward The Selbyville Town Council agreed on June 5 to proceed with plans to create a new mixed-use zoning district. “This is a whole new district with a lot of mixed uses. There could be a salon, bar, with housing above it. It’s a long process to go through,” Duncan said. Long said the zoning won’t be in a

particular area and that there will be a public hearing before it is approved. “We have to start somewhere and see if it will work,” Duncan said. Long said she will talk to a planning consultant, who will meet with members of the Town’s Planning & Zoning Commission. She said there will likely be months of meetings on the issue, and the public will have the opportunity to comment. See COUNCIL page 2

All-you-can-eat seafood

By Kerin Magill Staff Reporter The Frankford Town Council’s agenda for its Monday, June 5, meeting heavily reflected the projected growth that is already changing the way the Town operates. During the meeting, the council approved its budget for the 2024 fiscal year, showing an increase in both projected expenditures and revenues due to coming development. The council also approved preliminary site plans for the proposed Vines Creek Crossing development. Formerly known as the Cress Farm, the property is slated for a total of 584 new homes — nearly double the existing number of homes in the town. See FRANKFORD page 3

You have to do a little bit of the work yourself, but we can say with pretty solid confidence that this particular place has the freshest seafood in town.

Police chief on administrative leave after DUI charge By Susan Canfora Staff Reporter Longtime Bethany Beach Police Chief Michael Redmon was suspended from duty after being charged with driving under the influence near Selbyville a little after midnight on Tuesday, May 30. Confirming the 56-year-old chief ’s suspension, Bethany Beach Mayor Rosemary Hardiman told the Coastal

Point that Redmon was placed on administrative leave “pending the adjudication of the charge that has been placed against him.” “At the time the case is resolved, the Town will officially review the incident and determine what the Town’s future actions regarding Chief Redmon will be,” she said. Neither she nor Town Manager Cliff Graviet — who, when asked for com-

ment, offered a similar statement to the mayor’s — would answer any further questions. “The Town has no additional comment,” he said. Delaware State Police Cpl. Leonard DeMalto said Redmon’s vehicle was stopped at 12:19 a.m. on Lighthouse Road near Old Mill Road in Selbyville. DeMalto said Redmon was not driving a marked police vehicle at the time.

It is against state police policy to release whether or not a breathalyzer test was administered or what Redmon’s blood alcohol level was, DeMalto said. He said a traffic ticket was issued, but Redmon was not taken to jail or put in a holding cell. There was no accident or speeding involved, and Redmon was released to a sober individual, he said. “Each case is unique. It’s up to the judge,” he said.
