VFW unveils Memorial Park
By Susan Canfora Staff Reporter Millsboro residents will have a choice when they vote on Saturday, June 10, as Mayor Faye Lingo, representing District 3, is being challenged by candidate Matthew Davis, and longtime incumbent Larry Gum, who serves at-large, will face candidate Marty Presley. Incumbent Ron O’Neal, representing District 2, is running unopposed. Voting will be from 1 to 7 p.m. in the reception hall at Millsboro Town Hall. Afterward, results will be posted on the front door of town hall and also on the Town’s website. Davis, 36, a native of Salisbury, Md. and vice president of Farmer’s Bank of Willards in Millsboro, grew up in Salisbury and has always lived on the Eastern Shore. “Sussex County is where we landed,” he said, referring to himself and his wife, Erin. They have three children — daughters Adalyn and Lyla, 8 and 5, and son Everett, 9 months. They are active members of Bay Shore Community Church. “I am on the Board of Adjustment now. We live in Plantation Lakes. We have an awesome town here, and it’s a growing location. I see it in everybody, through the bank, dealing with customers who come in. I really believe the town has a great future. I want to be part of it,” he said. He didn’t file for election because he’s concerned or upset about anything the current council is doing, he said, but because the council represents thousands more people than it See ELECTION page 2
Police chief requests investigation into mayor’s alleged activities By Kerin Magill Staff Reporter In the weeks since the Fenwick Island Town Council voted unanimously to not renew the contract of the town’s police chief, John Devlin, the relationship between the chief and town officials has caused considerable tension in the town, with both the chief and some residents attacking the mayor and council through social media and the chief making accusations of improper actions by the mayor. According to statements last month from Mayor Natalie Magdeburger, the vote regarding Devlin’s contract was taken during an executive session before the Friday, April 28, town council meeting. Executive sessions are closed to the public — items discussed can include sensitive topics, such as personnel issues and pending litigation. Devlin was informed on May 1 of the council’s decision See FENWICK page 3
