023 was an exciting year for Atlanta CoPublisher Craig Glander and he is looking forward to what 2024 has in store! “We had many firsttime events such as exhibiting at the Atlanta Boat Show (photo A), the Blue Ridge Trout A Fest and the Fly Fishing Show in Atlanta,” wrote Craig. “We sponsored our local high school wrestling team (photo B) as well as our local high school fishing team. My son Landon and his fishing partner have represented us and the fishing team well, including in a recent MLF Open High School Tournament on Lake Hartwell that they won!” (Photo C is from the weighin, and click here to read the press release online.) “One of the highlights for 2023 involved their trip to the National Championship over the summer in La Crosse, WI. While they didn’t win, my son caught a huge bullfrog
B while fishing. They posted the video on Instagram, which went viral, and has received 839K views! (Photo D shows the views—along with The Angler Magazine on his sleeve!) The frog was released unharmed...

HIGHLIGHTS
NORTH CENTRAL FLORIDA / NATURE COAST
Y
ou may now address North Central Florida/Nature Coast Co-Publisher Lynn Crutchfield as GREAT Grandmother as Aurora Lynn made her debut three weeks early on the night of December 14th at a tiny 6 pounds, 18 inches. She was born in Texas, while her father, Lynn’s grandson, was on his ship in Spain. He left immediately and arrived in Amarillo just a few days after her birth. Everyone is doing well and the military now has paternity leave, so he may stay in Amarillo until mid February when his ship is scheduled to again be deployed.
MIAMI
M
iami Co-Publisher Scott Goodman put in a fine effort to enhance our reputation and recognition at the 2023 Miami Boat Show and left little to chance on ensuring this was CAM’s best Miami Boat Show to date. Scott coordinated with the show’s production staff to have his Miami edition available in all the show racks and went a step further by hiring two friendly faces, who were wearing Coastal Angler t-shirts, to hand out magazines at the show’s entrance. Over 2,000 magazines were put in the hands of attendees and exhibitors! Scott generated substantial revenue by turning his local edition into a “Boat Show Edition.” Numerous franchisees and CAM’s National Sales Team sent Miami Boat Show ads to Scott’s local edition. He also contracted with the nearby world famous Lobster Shack to host an casual “get-together” for his writers and advertisers which enabled a sense of camaraderie among the MORE 2023 HIGHLIGHTS ON NEXT PAGE guests that can only be described as invaluable.
HIGHLIGHTS BREVARD

ustomer appreciation takes on many forms, and saying “thank you” to a longtime advertiser is always appreciated. This year the Brevard Franchise volunteered to cook for the Annual Boater’s Exchange employee Christmas party. That’s quite a task given their 68 people guest list! Ben Martin and Charlie McCullough showed up with their smokers and grills to prepare eight prime beef loins while the Boater’s Exchange upper management set
the tables and prepared the side dishes for their annual get together. According to Ben Martin, “Timing was the crucial factor in producing the nearly perfect reverse seared beef loins.”
CHRISTMAS PRIME BEEF LOIN RECIPE: • Coat loins with kosher salt and refrigerate for 24 hours (this process breaks down meat to make it even more tender) • Remove meat from refrigerator 2 hours before cooking, bringing to room temperature • Spice meat generously with kosher salt, medium ground pepper, garlic and lemon pepper • Pre-heat grill/smoker to 225 degrees • Place loins on grill with large sprigs of rosemary on each loin • Cook 2 hours and 15 minutes until internal temperature of meat reaches 110 degrees • Remove from heat • Baste with butter and re-spice heavily on top of butter coating • Place loins on a super-hot deep bed of coals (don’t fear the flame) • Turn loins until all four sides are charred and a crust has formed • Remove from heat and allow meat to rest for at least 15 minutes before slicing • Serve at an internal temperature of 120 degrees Perfect, perfect, perfect! Christmas dinner served at exactly 7:00 PM.

olusia County Co-Publishers Jamie and Deidra Thrappas welcomed their son, Drayton James, on August 24 at 1:25 p.m. Proud parents say they are so in love and grateful for their healthy baby boy. In a recent Facebook post, Deidra wrote this to her newborn: “We can’t wait to watch you grow but in the same breath, we would love to stop time... Your childhood will be what most people dreamed they could have, and we hope to instill enough humbleness in you for you to understand and appreciate it. We love you Drayton James.”

Don’s connections in the marine community run deep. He was a bass fishing guide for 30 years and a custom rod builder for 40 years. He owned three fishing tackle shops in Florida called “REDS Fishing Tackle “ in honor of his father, the nickname that has since been passed down to him. He has been a tournament angler since 1971, formed three bass clubs, and taught classes at the South Florida State College on “Bass Fishing Techniques”, “Flipping & Pitching for Bass” and “Custom Rod Building”.
Don “Red” Norton
Okeechobee Co-Publisher
Don says, “My bass fishing guide service gave me an excuse to go fishing. I turned my hobby of rod building into a business. I will use my sales experience, combined with my love of the outdoors—specifically my passion for fishing—combined with my local connections, to produce the best resource for anglers in South-Central Florida.”
