In September 2025, we, along with CCDB staff members, travelled to Patharghata, a coastal region of Bangladesh, to speak with four women participating in a growing, community-based social movement. This movement has been catalyzed in part by ENGAGE, a five-year Global Affairs Canada-funded initiative co-designed by the Coady Institute and five partner organizations, including the Christian Commission for Development in Bangladesh (CCDB). Through ENGAGE, women form groups, participate in training, and engage with one another to address challenges such as livelihood insecurity, gender inequality, and climate vulnerability. At the same time, the processes described here extend beyond the boundaries of a single program, as the women draw on these spaces to nurture relationships, broaden learning opportunities, and initiate actions that reach beyond their ENGAGE groups
