106 Years of Trust and Service to the Community

1920 - John Hafen purchased the property which the Oasis Casino eventually occupied.

1930 - Max & Estelle Hafen move to Mesquite on the original 40 acres on Mesquite Blvd. Max, an original committee member, helped develop the Mesquite area culinary water system in 1936.

1960 - Bryan & Dawn Hafen build a home on his grandfather John Haafen’s property. Bryan, at age 22, became the youngest ever elected Nevada State Legislator.

1971 - Hafen Dairy Barn was built on land later to be next to I-15. It was in use until 1995 when Player’s Island started golf course construction and in 1998, Sunset Greens started development.

1982 -

Hafen Family builds the last residential home on Mesquite Blvd, which is now home to Desert Gold Realty.

Celebrating 30 Years of Growing With Mesquite

In 2026, we’re celebrating a major milestone—30 years of being part of the Mesquite community! It feels like just yesterday we opened our doors, but in reality, a lot has happened in 30 years, not only for our business, but for the city of Mesquite as well. When I look back to 1996, it’s hard not to feel incredibly grateful and a little amazed at how far we’ve come together.

Financial Concepts began very humbly. It was just me, one desk, one phone, and a 10x10 office in an executive suite. I was working completely on my own, building relationships one client at a time, with a vision for serving people well and doing things the right way. Fast forward to today, and we’re now in a 2,000-square-foot office with nine employees, serving clients across multiple areas of financial planning. What once felt like a dream now feels like a blessing. Over the last 30 years, our firm has grown tremendously. What means the most to me is that this growth has become a family legacy. Today, my three sons are working alongside me and stepping into leadership as they prepare to take over the business. Together, our team includes three Financial Advisors, a dedicated Medicare Specialist, and one of our newest services—tax planning and preparation with our CPA. Being able to offer comprehensive financial, Medicare, and tax guidance all under one roof allows us to better serve our clients through every season of life.

Our story is deeply connected to Mesquite’s story. I’ve loved growing alongside this city and the community that has made our success possible. When I first came here, Mesquite’s population was just over 5,000. There was no Walmart, no hospital, no Sun City, and very little built north of the freeway. I remember when there was only one doctor in town, whose office was a single-wide mobile home on a vacant lot where City Hall now stands.

The Eureka Casino (originally Rancho Mesquite) had not yet been built, and the Casablanca (then Player’s Island) was still under construction.

I don’t recall any traffic lights, and the local theater was a small screen inside the Virgin River Casino. While today we may wish for even more amenities, it’s almost hard to imagine a time when restaurants, stores, doctors, and medical facilities were so limited. Mesquite has truly come a long way in the past 30 years and Financial Concepts has grown right along with it. This community has supported us, trusted us, and allowed us to become part of their lives and financial journeys. For that, my family and I thank this town and community for 30 wonderful years and look forward to the next 30 years.

The Chamber hosts networking luncheons, breakfasts, ribbon cuttings, grand openings, an annual golf invitational, and special events designed to help businesses build visibility and meaningful connections. Nevada Bank and Trust was a vision of the late Wes Holt, along with a few other businessmen in Caliente, Nevada in the mid-1970’s. Wes had become an acquaintance of the Chadwicks, from Soda Springs, Idaho, who had experience operating banks. Through this acquaintance grew a lifelong friendship. Together, this small group started NB&T. They opened their doors on June 20, 1978 in a rented location. Shortly after, the Bank started construction on a new building that today houses the Caliente Branch and Administrative offices.

Since then, the Bank has added 3 branches located in Ely, Elko, and

2025 CHAMBER HIGHLIGHTS & EVENTS

Monthly Luncheons

Each month, the Chamber hosts a membership meeting luncheon for our members. The luncheon is held the second Wednesday of each month, with the exception of December, in which the luncheon falls on the second Friday of December. The luncheon provides networking opportunities, educational and interesting speakers and sponsorship opportunities for members.

“Best of Mesquite Chamber Awards”

The “Best of Mesquite” Chamber Awards is an event designed to recognize businesses going above and beyond in their industry. Members of the Chamber may nominate members in several different categories and then vote for their favorite nominee. The winners are announced at the January dinner and presented with an engraved plaque.

Honoring Those Who Served

At the November luncheon, Chamber members and non-members are encouraged to show their support by treating a veteran to lunch. In addition to the Chamber’s regular luncheon raffles, veterans are treated to special raffle drawings and swag bags,

Mingle and Jingle Luncheon

In December, the Chamber celebrates it members and volunteers at the annual “Mingle and Jingle Luncheon.” New Board Members are introduced and Board Members finishing their Board terms are thanked. Members having anniversaries for five, ten, fifteen, twenty and twenty-five years are recognized. The cover of the annual Mesquite Business and Destination Guide is announced. This luncheon is one of the most popular luncheons with members and is highly attended.

As the temperature rises, what could be better than lunch by the pool? Our April luncheon is held pool side at the CasaBlanca Resort. The Chamber typically has a speaker from the Entertainment/Travel Industry as the featured speaker.

“What’s Happening Mesquite” Breakfast

Four times a year, the Chamber hosts a “What’s Happening Mesquite” Breakfast. The breakfast provides members with the opportunity to have a free speaking slot to update the membership on their business and upcoming events.

Annual Golf Reception and Tournament

The Chamber’s annual golf tournament kicks off the day before with a golf reception. The reception offers a par 3 tournament, appetizers, and a silent auction. The tournament rotates each year to a member course and takes place on the first Saturday in August. Golfers enjoy a swag bag on arrival to their cart, continental breakfast and lunch. The event ends with the presentation of trophies and lots of raffle prize drawings. This event is one of the Chamber’s largest fundraisers and in 2026, Mesquite Chamber will hold its 21st Anniversary Golf Invitational.

“Hope Starts Here” Luncheon to benefit SafeNest

Mesquite Chamber holds an annual fundraiser luncheon in October (Domestic Violence Awareness Month) to benefit SafeNest – Mesquite Domestic Violence Shelter. Attendees are treated to a fabulous luncheon, the chance to win great raffles prizes, make donations to support SafeNest and to learn more from SafeNest in their journey to end domestic violence. SafeNest offers a variety of services to help their clients.

Small Business Saturday

The Chamber participates in the nationwide Small Business Saturday each year on the Saturday following Thanksgiving. The event is hosted by Mesquite Chamber of Commerce and is free to retailers in Mesquite to participate. All of the marketing is done by the Chamber at no charge to the retailers. It is an opportunity for the community to shop small and shop local to support businesses in Mesquite.

SSCC - Silver State Chambers of Commerce

Silver State Chambers of Commerce was formed in 2021 by founding members the Pahrump Chamber, Mesquite Chamber and Reno + Sparks Chamber. The SSCC serves as a State Chamber for Nevada Chamber Executives to discuss matter of public policy, to collaborate on relevant matters that may impact Chambers’ membership and statewide commerce, to promote Chambers’ activities, statewide tourism, economic development, sustainable jobs and training for statewide Chamber executives.
